Honestly they will both do what you want reliably. No need to spend the extra 400 on the TS.
While I love S&W and own 2 different ones including a Sport II and the T, they are not my “Go To” AR’s.
If you are going to Spend TS money on an AR, consider a Daniel Defense or Bravo Company.
I use my Daniel Defense rifles for all my Training Classes. They just (IMHO) are a better weapon for a 4 day, 1,000 round Training course, specially in the Desert heat and sand that I train in.
For range use or home defense, ANY of the above mentioned rifles will not let you down. Even the Sport II (Which you can buy 3 of for them price of the TS)
Training and Ammo. That’s where you want to spend money.

The TS has a 14.5" barrel with a pinned and welded flash hider. If you ever want to change your muzzle device, that becomes difficult with this model.

Thanks. I am also considering a BCM recce. Trying to keep it under $1400. I'll take the TS off the list for now

I own a TS, but I only wanted to buy a one and done AR. (Of course it didn't work out that way after optic, sling, drop-in trigger, buffer spring, etc)
That said, I like it a lot...but got it at the LEO discount price rather than retail, so that's a consideration as well.
There are many excellent options on the market.
