AR-15 Sport 2
I am about to purchase a new AR-15 Sport 2. The particular one I am looking at is the optics ready version. My question is, would I have to replace the Picatinny gas block in order to install a free floating type hand guard or will the hand guard clear that style of gas block?

Most free floats will require you to replace the gas block.

I kinda figured that. My first mod will be to add a 1-4x scope. That's why I chose that Model. I didnt want the front post in the way. But I will eventually put an M-Lok hand guard so I will look around for low profile gas blocks. Thank you

Yes you will have to replace the block, that style is to tall to go under a free float. You will also have to replace the barrel nut most free floats come with a proprietary barrel nut and each manufacture may be different.

Agree with what the others said... more than likely you’ll have to replace it to install a free float handguard. The other option would be to install a drop in handguard shown in the picture below.
