That’s really up to you, honestly. What size are the targets you’ll be shooting at? With the 2-gun competitions I usually shoot, most targets are full IPSC out to 200 yards, and I’ve never had an issue making hits on target at that distance with irons or an unmagnified red dot (even an old 4MOA AimPoint).
For ME and my preferences, I wouldn’t want to lug around the extra weight of a magnifier unless I either needed greater precision than what the sight itself offered, needed positive target ID, or was regularly shooting 200y or more. If you can see the target, ID it, and don’t need MOA at distance, then that 1MOA dot in the center of the Huey’s reticle will be more than good enough for the fast shooting you’re likely to encounter with most 3-gun type shooting.
HOWEVER, check with the match director or others who shoot these matches often. I know some 3-gun comps stretch things out quite a ways, so the MD or regular shooters will know better what the courses of fire will look like.
By the way, I love my Huey. It’s not an Aimpoint or an EOTech, but it’s a solid optic, and the CQB triangle at the base of the reticle is great for account for sight offset close in! They’re releasing a GenII version sometime this summer that will be NV compatible.
