Default Swapping barrel on a sport ll

Greetings first post here. New firearm owner and MP15 owner as well. Just bought a Cali compliant featureless Sport ll from LGS. i'll be getting the AR MAGLOK gen4 and KingPin which will allow me to go full features. Unfortunately the barrel is threadless so i need to swap it for a threaded one for muzzle devices. I think it would make sense to put the MP15T barrel on there with the 1/8 5r twist. Also has the mid length gas system for better recoil I understand. I like the hand guard too on that model. Where cab you get these MP15 parts? Thanks !

Right now, that might be a tough thing to do since people are buying up firearms, ammo, and parts like crazy. You could try Brownells, Midway USA, and Natchez Shooting Supplies to start. I'm sure others will have some tips on other place you can check.

I don't believe I have ever seen that barrel for sale separately, at least not new from S&W. You could always just get the barrel you have threaded.

I would just get the barrel you have now threaded. ADCO or the guy I like to use is Morgan at Class 3 machining in Dallas.

You do realize that your posting on a public forum about committing a felony? Taking a CA compliant non-assault rifle and adding the prohibited features is just that.

Sounds like they are adding the product that requires the rifle to be opened before the magazine can be released, which then allows you to have all the evil features. CA laws make no sense to me.

A good percentage, I'd guess over 75%, of CA cops would have no idea what/how the various maglock/break open AR systems work. Most will just book you and the gun and wait for an expert report on if the gun is legal.

Why buy trouble? Yes it sucks for AR shooters in CA but pushing the limits is asking for trouble.

Question

Just for arguments sake, where exactly did the OP state or infer that he/she resides in California?

FWIW, buying a "...Cali compliant featureless Sport ll from LGS..." does not require said residency. Just a thought...

Most cops are not up on current on gun laws, and in this environment, I would guess most won't care either.

The Gen 4 AR MAGLOCK w/Kingpin system makes it Cali compliant:

Well, getting the barrel threaded was a great Idea, didn't even occur to me to do that. However I just purchased a threaded barrel from my LGS with a 1-7" twist. They had a few to choose from (returned by a guy with some legal drug issues) between a 7" and 9" twist (no 8" 5R) I went with the 7". No problem, think I'll keep it and have the original barrel threaded too. Plus the 7" twist barrel has a mid L gas tube. Since it is CA compliant I'm not going to cower before the possibility of being inconvenienced by an officer who doesn't know that. But I'd imagin they are aware that both the featurless AND maglock systems are compiiant... this is a maglock system.

Trust me I know enough about the various work arounds to know when to book someone.

Just be ready for at least 48 hours unless your willing to post bail, and even then getting it back will be a pain in the but and expensive.

I appreciate your feedback and thanks. Giving it due consideration and what you say rings true with real world and you're the guy to know. Maybe I'm naive and a little confused now due to the fact the 'locked magazine' legal alternative to 'featureless' ( for Cali) has already been openly marketed and posted about in public forums long before I just did. So if the 'locked magazine' system is in fact legal in Cali ( at this time regardless of whether an officer is up to speed on that) , I'm not actually "posting on a public forum about committing a felony" ... correct?

OK I'll grant that your not committing a felony.

My point is the vast majority of LEO are not gun people, especially in CA. A huge percentage have never shot or owned guns before coming on the job.

Most just se the AR as an assault weapon and don't keep up with the various updates to the law or technology work arounds.
