Default Vertical handgrip for M&P Sport 2

I am new to the AR15 platform. My question is is there a way to add a vertical handgrip to the stock front hand guard? I was told that I could add a picatinny rail, then add the handgrip. Any help out there for the new guy?

Here you go.

Also by vertical grip are you going to hold it with your entire hand, or use it as sort of a stop?

Very few people use their entire hand nowadays, most use it as a sort of stop/positioner to gain leverage. Check this video of how Larry Vickers grabs his shorty grip

This is why a lot of people have gone to the angled foregrip

My brother and I went down to the LGS about 7 or 8 years ago and we ended up getting the same AR-15. We've both made changes to them, but nothing we've done is the same. He put a vertical forward grip on his. He let me try it out, and honestly I couldn't shoot it as well as mine without it. It felt totally wrong to me.

My point is only this: Everyone is different. You may like it, you may not. If you haven't, I'd be sure to shoot one first to see if it's actually an improvement for you.

Everyone is different. To me, they are garbage, but other people love them. If you can, borrow one or try a rifle with one on it before you spend the money.

There are several different configurations (understatement?) of the Sport II. One (or more) come with MagPul's M-LOK MOE hand guard on them as an upgrade item.

Accessories can be added to these, not to the standard factory hand guard. A M-LOK vertical hand grip, or any M-LOK accessory, can be added directly to it.

Are you sure of which one you have?

Red lion - sounds like you have it down. It is one of those things that once you do, it becomes pretty clear from then on.

As noted, lots of variety in what is popular now in vertical grips. The original broom handle grip was comfortable with a large plate carrier and long patrol type carrying. Overtime, the vertical grips have gotten smaller, both in height and mounting.

Suggest a little experimenting, so a longer Picatinny rail might allow you to adjust a bit more. You will find a happy medium.

Thanks all. I ended up getting a quad-rail hand guard. Problem with mounting gadgets solved.
