Default Installing Free Float Rail - Questions About Removing A2

The weather is garbage around here so I need to keep myself occupied. Decided I want to put a free float on this which from what I have read, means removing the a2 sight. Now while also removing the a2, I will have to buy a low profile gas block in its place to replace the a2 but I have heard of issues with it not lining up correctly.

Any advice you guys could throw in here is appreciated as well as a list of tools that I would need.

Thanks for your post : It made me re-think: Instead of doing it myself & having to buy all the proper tools I will have a gunsmith do it.

A mans got to know his limitations

The question is "Why do you want the rail"? The primary rational reason for a free float handguard is to eliminate possible interference with barrel harmonics that can affect accuracy. You appear to have a Mag-Pul hand guard that will accept rail sections for accessories and "bling".

If defensive use is part of your intentions, a fixed front sight is a good thing. You already have that. I do believe they have hand guards that are slotted for the sight tower.

I like the looks of that carbine as it is! I think the hand guard you have on there is one of the best made for carbine length guns, I have the same one just black. Unless you suspect that barrel to hand guard contact / harmonics is degrading your accuracy I would suggest not making the swap. If you do decide to change it out for a free floating model I’d suggest a gunsmith.

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy the AR. Yep, decent tools are needed and if you don't get the addiction, it's smart to just let someone else do it who has the tools, etc. The FSB can be simple or it can make you cuss your grandma. No consistency with them. To a lesser yet real extent, the same goes with the delta assembly; specifically the ring. They too can be very easy, easy, difficult, grab the gun, stop on a bridge and toss the *** in a river. Very, very rarely is there an alignment issue with a gb and/or the tube. About as rare as hens teeth. Good luck.
