I have a Smith & Wesson sport 2 Optics ready rifle I would like to know what kind of flip up sights I can put on this gun and how to put them on. I'm new to the AR rifle thing

check out magpul mbus. You can get either polymer or iron sights to fit the picatinny rail. I think your rifle comes with a picatinny rail. I put a pair of mbus pros on my Ruger MPR rail because I wanted the iron sight version and not the polymer mbus. They flip up and are Go To Go. I got the MBUS pro LR rear sight because I am a long distance shooter (200+ yards) and I wanted the elevation adjustment of the LR rear sight but any of the MBUS sights will serve quite well. Are you wanting a "gas block" front sight or one that attaches to the rail?

Yankee Hill makes a gas block flip up front sight. Magpul for rail mount.

Yes if you need a gas block front sight, one that is right above the gas block, you will need an iron flip up sight; otherwise, it might melt.

The railed GB on your gun is "same-plane" or simply put, it's at the same height as the rail on your upper rcvr. Several choices for flip-ups sights. Most folks go with Magpul's MBUS sights. They make both polymer and steel. Polymer is advised against mounting on the gas block due to the potential of melting the sight during sustained, rapid firing. Never seen it happen to include one I once had (DPMS). Never experienced any other degradation to them due to temperature changes. The steel versions are called MBUS Pro.

The Magpul plastic sights are popular and work well for those of us not fighting terrorists. I have a couple sets. There also several companies making aluminum pop sights like Troy and other that would probably hold up to heavier use. I have a few of those lying around as well.

The polymer sights don't melt... they become brittle from the heat and cooling. Magpul does not recommend the polymer sights for use on a gas block because of this.
