I searched and did not see any discussion on this, but my firearm (CA optics ready) came with a threaded barrel and cap. Interesting enough I did not see this cap on other versions of this firearm(they either had non-threaded barrel or a some type of flash hider pre-installed). So my question is what have you guys added to it and if so what are your recommendations? I don't think it needs a muzzle brake to be honest so probably a flash hider of some sort (this is more an aesthetic issue for me versus function).
Not sure where you live, but here in California flash hiders are illegal. Brakes and comps are legal as long as they don't mention flash hiding in the descriptions.
Hi Westie...will it still be illegal if the firearm is not featureless (an AR maglock is installed)?
FH is legal on an AR type that is not featureless. Just be sure you're compliant with the latest CA AW law requiring the action to be disassembled to drop the mag.
Apologies to anyone outside CA who got a headache trying to figure out "featureless" and why the action would have to be opened to reload ......
Let me break this down re: Flash Hider legal or not.
If the rifle has a fixed magazine (a magazine that cannot be removed without disassembling the receiver) that does not have a capacity higher than 10 rounds, a flash hider is legal.
If the rifle has a removable magazine, then adding a flash hider would make the gun an assault rifle which is illegal in CA.
Thanks guys for all the information. I really appreciate it..especially coming from guys that are way more knowledgeable then me about specific (current anyway) laws in CA...
