Default My S&W M&P AR-15 Sport II is now a beautiful wall decoration only

Non-functioning now due to the bolt assembly defect, which resulted in the non fired ammo going top of bolt striking shell casing stratching the shell casing, ammo jammed in place gun not able to be used again, have many other S&W guns and now very disappointed about this.

First off: Welcome to the best gun forum there is!

Second off: Your description didn't quit make sense to me, but I get that there is a round jammed in the chamber and you are very frustrated.

I don't understand if that round is fired of live, so I'll assume it is live. If at all possible put the gun on safe! If you can remove the upper, do so. You are now in a condition that the gun can't accidently fire! You can now safely transport the gun to a gunsmith, or even to the gun shop you bought it at. There are lots of people that will spill off all kinds of things to fix your gun. Your description of what happened tells me you don't understand enough to attempt a "Live Round" repair, and suggest you have a pro help you! I am sure you gun will be up and running soon as it gets the care it needs.

Ivan

I agree that the description isn't real clear, but sounds like a bolt override malfunction. OP, read the description at the link and tell us if this is what happened.

The description of the problem is difficult to follow. At the least, remove the upper and slap it against the ground. Maybe the bolt will pop out. Even if the bolt is slightly to the rear the upper should be removable from the lower by popping out both pins.

One post in 3 years. A bit unusual. It appears you posted to provide somewhat of a description of the event and the end result. Evidently not seeking advice or possible help with corrective help, therefore, I recommend you toss the gun and buy another.

Firearm is obviously defective and beyond all repair. My recommendation is that the OP drop it, along with any other accessories, off at my residence for secure disposal.

If the unfired round is jammed up by the gas tube, it can be cleared.

Frequent causes include: defective magazine (cracked lips), not getting the top round in the magazine firmly in place and/or slamming the magazine in place with the bolt locked back. This can cause the top round to jump out of the magazine, then when the bolt is released, two rounds try to go into the chamber. One often ends up where you seem to be describing it.

Can't say I have ever seen an "overbolt obstruction", but from now on I will know it when I see it - and how to deal with it. I don't know what I was expecting when I opened this thread, but I will say that I learned something new this morning!

Not that I have a lot of AR-15 shooting experience (put 2 together from parts kits so I know how they work) but yeah, I learned about a rare jam and the really easy way to clear it.
Always have to admire Jerry's ammo stash.

First of all, an 'over-bolt' malfunction is caused by a magazine problem, not a problem with the firearm. It's not very common, but isn't too hard to clear if it does.

Secondly, learn how your semi-auto firearm operates and how to keep it functioning when stoppages occur, because they will happen.

What was S&W Customer Services response when you contacted them?

Or was coming here to complain in your first post on this forum your first course of action?

Thought I'd seen it all and knew how to fix most anything on my AR, until today! Thanks for the videos!! Wonder if that ever happened to a poor soul in combat?

BTW, mine is an ancient M&P 15PS...a Piston model that I would never trade for 2 Colts. It has been flawless in over 10 years of use..

Apparently he ditched the forum. Last activity was 1 minute after the OP.

Edit: You think he thought this was a review site like Yelp? Just leave a nasty comment and go?

I normally read an opening post and when it doesn't make any sense I usually don't bother following in anymore. However, this apparent trolling attempt has generated the exchange of some useful information. Inadvertent education generated is still knowledge gained.

I doubt we'll hear from him for another 3 years. When I see posts like his, I automatically assume a newbie to guns in general, and absolutely clueless. Bought an AR because it was Tacti-cool. Non-functional and hanging on a wall is probably all for the best. I hope he removed the magazine, at least.
