Glad to, and congratulations!
Like with any rifle, save a BUNCH of ammo and a hot barrel by sighting in first at only 25 yards.
Sight her in about 1.2" low and she'll be dead on at 50 yards. The "rainbow" of the trajectory will then have the bullet rise to about 1.8" high at both 125 and 150 yards . . . then start to drop . . . until once again dropping to zero again at 225 yards.
Sighting this way will mean your AR15 will basically hit within +/- 1.8" of zero from about 20 yards to about 235 yards. In other words, aim dead center on a coke can at any range from 20 yards to 230 yards and the can is toast if you do your job!!!
In my neck of the woods, this tight trajectory will cover with a tight group just about any distance I can see to shoot!
Others my prefer the ol' Army sight in (IIRC) of 25 yards which should drop to zero again at 300 yards with a higher mid range trajectory of course.
I believe the Marine Corps sights in now at 25 METERS.
Someone PLEASE correct my errors on the military distances if I'm wrong and please add the trajectories of these two sight in methods. Both are for longer range zeros than I prefer here in Georgia sighting in to take out coyotes.
If I get a 400 yard shot here (such as if part of our club gets clear cut) I'll just refer to the trajectory chart below and hold the proper amount high.
Hope this helps,
Tom
Or, look at the chart below and decide where to sight it in at 25 yards so it is zero'ed at another range if you prefer.
