I just bought a AR15 M&P from Tanner sales thru Gun Broker. They show the part# as 311000 which they claim is the same as 811000. I went on the S&W site and searched the part number with no results. Any idea what's goin on here? Thanks and I'm glad to have joined this forum.

This does seem to be a legitimate S&W product number as it shows up in several different places. It looks to have the same specs as the 811000 in the S&W Product Catalog.

I called S&W customer service line and they told me that the 311000 I ordered is primarily for LE use and it subjected to a higher set of quality control checks. Same gun otherwise. We shall see, but it sounds good to me. Thanks, John

The 311000 is the LE version of the 811000, and according to S&W the difference is that the 311000 is "audited" (their words) more than the commercial rifle, which I assume means it is given an extra inspection. That was the extent of the explanation I was given when I called S&W to ask about that SKU number.

Note that the LE pistols (at least in the M&P series) also have the SKU numbers beginning with a "3," which usually signifies it is shipped with 3 magazines instead of the commercial pistols, which have two mags.
