Greetings all,
I showed my second build "Black Beauty" a while back so I got to thinking that I should share the first one I built. I completed this about six weeks ago, and I have made a few changes along the way, rail covers, etc., but am almost there. I still have not decided on a sling and an optic. I'm leaning toward the Vickers sling and the Aimpoint T-1 with the LaRue mount, but I can't decide.
This build consists of a KD lower, an Armalite LPK, VLTOR Modstock with a SOG buttpad, CAA grip, S&W M&P upper -I added a Badger Ordinance extended charging grip, Troy Industries BUIS with an XS tritium insert in the front, Daniel Defense rail covers, LaserMax laser, and a LaRue FUG. I also have the GripPod, which I love, but it is long and bulky. There is some discoloration on the barrel, it looks like the Parkerizing didn't take completely in those spots; it came that way out of the box. I've thought about sending to S&W, but the finish issue doesn't bother me enough to be without it. Overall, I'm very pleased with this build. I have some JP lightweight trigger and hammer springs, which I plan on changing over to, in addition, I'll do a little work on the primary sear to clean up some of the grit, but for an out of the box trigger it isn't bad. I might add a mount for my Surefire E2D Defender, but haven't decided yet.
One I have the optic and sling, I'll post some more pics.
I'd appreciate any input on red dot optics, I'm not much of a fan of the EOTech, but I'd need more trigger time behind one before I could be sure.
Best,
Michael

You put together a very nice rifle. For a red dot go with an Aimpoint T 1 or Comp M4s. They are the most rugged. If you want a variable optic wait a month or so and check out the new Accupoint TR24 1 X 4 variable power scope. It is a true 1X and will work very well for CQB and still zoom up to four power for long shots.

Nice rifle! You asked about optics. Not an expert but this represents perhaps the holy grail of AR optics:

If you don't mind paying more for the optics than the rest of the rifle.
