I have two, ones a "T" model and the others an "A". The "T" has over four thousand rounds downrage without an issue. The "A" is my wife's and has about 600 again with no problems. I highlly recommend them and you better buy it before it's gone as they don't rmain in stock long. Read my post on them down towards the page bottom. Make sure the serial number is over 5xxx as the first ones were made by Stag and had a few issues. The true S&W guns made in house are excellent!

They are quite good, in fact.

Mine's an M&P15A from the early Stag-built production run, with an S/N in the 1700s. The fit and finish is second to none. I have over 2100 rds through it without one hiccup. It has fed reliably from GI 20s (but what AR doesn't?), GI 30s, Brownells 30s, British steel 30s, Singaporean steel 30s, and Izzy Orlites. My M&P15 even digests Wolf steel case without issue. It will NOT however feed HP ammo without mods to the front wall of the mag. No matter, I don't own any 223/5.56 HP ammo.

Although I've not experienced the issues with Stag-built M&P15s reported elsewhere, and although some "fast operator Mall Ninjas" on other AR-oriented boards tend to look down on the S&W AR, my own experience is contrary and positive. I like mine so much that I bought a S&W lower from my dealer for a project gun.

Noah

The only issue I've heard is that some early guns won't take Magpul plastic mags.

S&W will fix the magpul issue on the early guns, the main issues were improper staking of the bolt carrier key and castle nut and improper tolerances on the lower receiver but S&W will make them right. Personally, other than a SBR Noveske or LMT, S&W is the only AR I will buy. Mine will feed Wolf also but I'm going to wait till I'm out of warranty before I do and if I do. I reload primarily so ammo's not a problem for me.

My S&W M&P-15A (16" flat top) (equipped with about $2,000 worth of optics and illumination) rides "shotgun" as I patrol during nightshift.

I bought my M&P-15 new about a year ago and frankly, I was a little worried that it may have been a little too tight out of the box. I needn't have worried as I've never had a jam or FTF.

Whatever bugs the M&P may have had in the past have been worked out.

T or F: Ruger's casting division makes the upper & lower receivers (as they do for many AR makers)?

I've built up two on S&W lowers to date, and have no problems as they are MIL-spec and heat-treated to 7075 (complete, not just the ring and hinge areas). One nice thing - the lowers are not caliber-specific, enabling them to be built into chamberings other than 5.56.

Decent AR copies. And specified in H.R. 45 for it's owners to be subject to government registration & licensing.

I've got the M&P15R - 5.45x39 - version. It's been 100%. I love it.

Last week I bought a brand new S&W S&P15 flat top. It is from this year's new number code, beginning with "SM" vs. the earlier "SW" numbers. Heck, my number is really low . . . SM 0022x . . . and it was nearly number 00223.

It is a really fine carbine and the build is excellent. I popped a Holosight on it and I've had a blast shooting it. 100% in every way.

The trigger is . . . ummm . . . a tad more "military" in pull weight than I'd like but it breaks cleanly. This is to be expected. I'll soon get the trigger as crisp as on my S&W revolvers and I'll be in hog heaven!

T.

It gets better, the OP ask if anyone in the "M&P 15" section has an M&P 15. It's all good though, hopefully he picked it up and is very happy with it.
