Here is a picture of my 15-22 and AR15ORC. The 15-22 has been FDE'ed, Magpul flip up's, ladder rail covers and Plinker Tactical charging handle. The AR15 ORC has a had a mil-spec buffer installed, Magpul butt stock, EoTech EXPS3 with a G33 magnifier, Diamondback aluminum drop in hand guard, Magpul grip and ladder rail covers. Also filled in all the lettering.

My Sport
After all these add-ons, this thing is heavy. It went fr barebones 6.5 lbs to 8 lbs without any loaded mags. I was just in a hurry to do some upgrades and tacked on some cheap stuff. I am building a lower with a 22 upper for my son so most of all these ugrades will be moving to the other one. I suggest save your $$$, pick the light furniture and take your time in dressing up your sport. Sorry for the ****** phone picture.
Be safe and have fun.

Don't worry. No matter how many times you say it or read it, everyone learns the hard way and ends up with a drawer full of bolt ons.

I like old school too. I might put the original, plastic handguard - after I camo it out. I just didn't like the added weight of the quad rail...and the bullet button. ;-)

Thanks, I appreciate it.
The flash hider is just the stock flash hider that comes on the MOE version.

I've done a few minor upgrades to my gun personally and this past weekend for my birthday I added a night vision scope to my M&P 15.

Got my Sport set up over the past few weeks
(NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY ABOUT MY DIRTY BENCH!!!!
MOE carbine hand guard
MOE light kit
MIAD grip
Surefire M951 I took off another gun (think I may just put a TLR-1 on as the Surefire is too bulky)
Primary Arms red dot (not a bad red dot!)
Still need:
VTAC MK2 sling
Mount-n-Slot hand stop
LOTS more ammo so I don't have to shoot my stockpile.

It's been a while.
It's been a while since I've poked around this forum. I've sold off my 15-22 and my M&P 9fs pistol is on consignment sale. The one and only S&W I have left is my 15-Sport. I've been tempted to sell it, but the Thompson Center 1:8 5R progressive gain twist Melonite treated heavy barrel is too darn good to let go.
It's been through some different changes. I've had carbine length drop in quad rails on it, Magpul furniture, bi-pod, flashlights, vertical grips, magpul sights, primary arms dot & magnifier, lightened trigger springs, polished combat triggers, etc... At one point it had every tacticool doo-dad on it and it became a pig of an AR.
I last settled on a basic setup to keep the 15-Sport lightweight. The original narrow diameter, no heat shield, handguard was back on. Most of the tacticool doo-dads came off.
I liked the return to a lightweight rifle. I prefer to shoot iron sights. What I didn't like was the lack of a heat shield on the handguard and the limited top rail space. With a Troy rear folding sight deployed, there was not enough rail space to mount a dot I had laying around. I got tired of the A2 front sight in the sight picture for those times I used a dot. I reconfigured the 15-Sport again.
- Troy folding front battlesight
- Troy folding rear battlesight
- Troy 15" Alpha Rail
- Troy Squid Grip rail inserts
- YHM low profile gas block
- Magpul MIAD grip with three emergency round grip insert.
- Magpul MOE stock
- Magpul MOE extended butt pad
- Magpul B.A.D. lever
- AR-Restor Hydraulic Buffer
- RRA 2-Stage Varmint Trigger
- BCM charging handle
The Troy Alpha rail has a small diameter which gives me a similar feel to the circumference of the stock 15-Sport handguards that I like. I have a longer iron sight radius. I'm going to change out the Bushnell Trophy "T" Dot for something smaller. The size and weight of it is annoying me to no end. I also prefer a simple 2-point sling set up. With the A2 front sight base gone, I'll have to figure out a new sling set up.
My 15-Sport is close to being done.

I was trying something new.
This is my M&P 15 MOE with A-TACS FG Gunskin camo applied.
It matches Proppers' BDU coat and pants in this camo pattern rather nicely.

Ok not exactly Smith but it does hang with Smith Recent face lift for my Olympic ML-1. Clean & simple but still weighs in at 8 pounds w/o bling or a mag. The broach cut stainless 16" heavy match barrel is a pile driver and bull up to the gas block. Oly got a Magpul CTR, Spikes milspec tube, spring and ST-2 buffer, ambi sling hook, large BCM Gunfighter, Sadlak LP LN gas block, Troy 13" Alpha rail, DPMS Miculek brake, EOTECH EXPS2-0 and all new 30 and 40rd Magpul gen 3's. It may also see a 1-4 or 1-6 scope and maybe some irons. Lower was pretty much good to go with existing single stage match trigger and Hogue grip. Not exceptional but pretty much as good as single stage gets. It did get a Magpul enhanced trigger guard. There's also a Magpul MS3 for use when the Troy Alpha swivel shows up. Still on the fence about using a BAD lever. This gang of two is being joined by a Versa Max Tactical when it shows in a week or so. Just decided to keep my 11-87 pristine and keep killing birds with it.
Always loved this gun but it has two quirks. 1) Its chambered 223 min saami spec 2) The barrel is 1:10 so 63g is about as heavy a load for it. Will eventually build something with a 18" wylde medium contour but not today. Also still loath to ream it out for 5.56.

NA, how do you like that comp/hider? I know people say its the best out but I'm having a hard time bringing myself to spend the money when the A2 hider works really well.
I'll add this here too.
Sport with a CTR stock, Troy Delta rail out front, MIAD grip, VTAC sling, PA red dot, BCM Mod 3 CH. Just need to mount my Surefire light.

Everything you have heard/read about them is true... I too was hard pressed to spend that kind of money on a compensator, but I would buy it again if I had too.

If I was doing a build or in 3 gun I'd go that route for sure. With a hider that gets the job done as it is I just can't drop that coin.

Here's my Sport/predator hunting rig.
All I've done is add a 2-7x32 Vortex scope in Nikon P-Series rings and a Blackhawk sling. There's just enough space to slide a piece of paper between the Magpul BUIS and the scope...no room to spare!

How do you like the Delta rail? I've been comparing this to the Alpha Vtac for my Sport. Can't make up my mind...

I LOVE it! Crazy easy to put on and solid as a rock. People say they don't think its a true free float. I beg to differ though. If you think about it the four screws on the outside are pulling the clamps out away from the barrel and make them squeeze down on the barrel nut, not squeezing the barrel as some seem to think.
I like being able to put rails only where I need them and keep the rest clean.

M&P15 picture thread
I'm done customizing my 15-Sport. I finally just got it exactly the way I want.
Magpul- MOE stock
- Enhanced butt pad
- MAID grip with emergency 3-round insert
- BAD lever
- Railed Vertical Grip
- MS3 Sling
- PMags
Troy Industries- 15" Alpha Rail
- Low profile gas block
- Front folding battle sight
- Rear folding Battle Sight
- 2" rail section
- QD mount insert for rail
- Rear bolt on QD sling mount
- Squid grip inserts
Unknown LED light & light mount. (A friend gave it to me and it worked out perfect)
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
Rock River Arms 2-Stage Varmint Trigger
KNS Precision Gen2 Anti-Rotation Pins
Fail Zero AR-15 Nickel Boron Bolt Carrier Group
AR-Restor Hydraulic Buffer
EoTech 512 Holographic Sight
The only OEM factory parts left on it are:- Upper receiver
- The lower receiver, minus the trigger & trigger pins.
- The buffer tube
- The buffer spring
- The barrel
- The A2 flash hider
It's been quite a journey to get here. The only regret I have is wasting time trying different accessories, trying to go the most frugal route. I wanted a free float rail, but tried to settle for drop in rails. I wanted a holographic sight, but had to try out the less expensive clones. I wanted a good trigger, so I tried to clean up a combat trigger and used different trigger springs. So on & so forth.
I should have just ponied up for good quality accessories from well known manufacturers from the start.
That begs the question as to whether or not I'd buy a 15-Sport knowing what I know now. Yes I would. The 15-Sport's bones are good: the upper & lower receivers, the buffer tube, the BCG, and especially the 1:8 5r progressive gain twist Melonite treated barrel.

Well finally got some sling hardware and had a change of heart on optics and abandoned EXPS2 in favor of a Vortex Razor HD 1-6x. Well my aging eyes with slight astigmatism made the decision for me. Granted it was an expensive bag of groceries for the scope, mount and speed dial but I would have spent almost as much between the Eotech and a decent magnifier and mount (plus irons) and still not been happy. Now that I have gotten used to it I think its the most versatile optic I have ever used. Vortex doesn't lie when they claim point blank to 600 yards. Gun did gain a bit of weight though at 9.6 pounds unloaded. Scope alone is 1.58 pounds + mount and dial. The Eotech will likely hang around as a backup or occasional use on my Versa Max.

Samson 12.37 evolution rail, love it! Love the eotech xps, even though its smaller than the other models,it does add some weight that changes the rifles balance.
