I bought it for the furniture
I purchased this M&P 15 today. I have looked for a few years for a set of Magpul Pink or MDI Muddy Girl camo for my granddaughter's AR and both seem to be discontinued. When I saw this rifle on a local forum I jumped on it.
I do not know exactly what I bought. No EPC, no FA, yet the upper is T marked and the barrel is a 1-9" twist 5.56 NATO marked HB, not tapered or notched. The few I have handled and owned all had barrels marked 1-8" twist 5R. The furniture is probably MDI stuff. Overall it is a nice, clean rifle and I was pleased to find it.

Oh heck yea!
Looks like a MagPul MOE edition I'm guessing.
She should like that!

You bought an M&P 15 Sport. When they first came out, they didn't have the FA or ejection port cover. They came with a 1:8 twist, 5R barrel. They also had the fixed LMT rear sight.
Then, still marketed as the Sport, they changed from the LMT sight to a Magpul rear sight.
Finally, at the end of the run, S&W changed from the 1:8 twist, 5R barrel to the 1:9 barrel. These were still the M&P Sport, and did not have the FA or the EPC. I bet this is what you bought, but someone changed out the furniture.
A couple of months later, S&W introduced the M&P 15 Sport II, which was the 1:9 barrel and added the FA and EPC.

Thank you cyphertext. I was told S&W changed to 1-9” twist barrels in 2012. Rather than take the furniture off it I decided to keep it as is. The S&W and my granddaughter are about the same age.

I remember that for the longest time my LGS had an M&P15-22 Sport with a muddy girl camo finish that they just couldn't seem to sell, despite the fact that they had reduced the price.
Granted, that didn't just have muddy girl furniture, but rather the whole thing was covered in muddy girl camo. I dunno if it was hydro-dipped or cerakoted or even if it was a factory applied finish, but it was quite a sight to behold, looked less like an AR and more like a 1990s-era girl's bicycle with that color scheme.
Congratulations on finding the furniture you were seeking for your granddaughter's AR, and you got a nice rifle as a bonus.
