Nuthin' fancy here (no light box, great camera, expensive gun) . . .

But here's my new M&P15OR, already updated with the new, recently released Magpul MOE handguards. These make an amazing difference in the handling of the carbine . . . more like the original triangular M16 handguards.

These truly have a more triangular shape to them (hard to show), that lays in the hand much better. You can mount accessory rails on the sides and bottom too for lights, straps, mono grip/bipods, etc.

Naturally, it works well with the A2 type front sight, but also works great with the tall gas block on the front of the S&W M&P15OR too, I'm very glad to say!

Naturally, this new carbine is a work in progress. I imagine backup flip-up front and rear sights are next, along with a different grip.

Suggestions on front sight? It rests on the taller gas block than many AR15s have, so I've got to keep that in mind.

I;m in the process of getting rid of the stock sight on mine and will replace it with a Yankee Hill combo gas block/front sight. It's fairly low profile and with my discount for $60, I can't go wrong.

Tom,

I've narrowed my OR BUIS choice to one of 2 sets. The purist in me likes the S&W M&P set that comes standard on the M&P15T. That set sits on the same tactical rail level, so it will work on the M&P OR ARs. Those part numbers are:

81102 rear M&P BUIS 172.50
40146 front M&P BUIS 100.00

The other set I like is the Spring Actuated GG&G. They have 2 different front sights, the M&P OR would require the one for tactical forearms (GGG-1282). See them at

http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=144

The GG&G set is a little less expensive (if you get it at Botach Tactical), and looks like it would nicely compliment the M&P OR. I'll probably wind up getting that one.

Doug

FWIW, the S&W sites are made by Troy Industries and you can get them either from Troy or a few other dealers for $120 to $140 (rear). The front sight will have the same price difference. Only difference on the factory sight is that there stamped M&P 15. Not worth the extra $$ to me!

Hi,

They were asking $1,050 for the M&P15OR model that I got . . . the one without sights, just the rail.

Sadly, in today's post-election madness, that's actually a good price. The shop also had a Bushmaster equivalent for $950 but the M&P15OR was the better value for the money.

I didn't pay that much . . . for I did some trading.

In about three days the Bushmaster was gone too. Such are the times since the election of the world's greatest gun salesman.

Don't feel bad about the price, here the M&P15ORC is $1250.00 and they're scarce at that I called S&W and they're backordered over 1000 for every M&P.

If you're searching for ARs, don't forget to visit general sporting goods stores, too. I've seen ARs on the shelves of several Academy Sports, at normal (pre-election) prices.

Greetings, I'm looking to immediately purchase a Model M&P15X Rifle, anyone know where they are available on-line at a reasonable price? Also, is the front site easily removed? Model M&P15T would also work. Thanks!!

Still needs a Troy rear sight, and eventually a rail.

I haven't posted on this board in a long time, but I recently took the plunge and bought a Smith & Wesson M&P 15A and love it.

Here are some pics of my gun...

Two of my most favorite guns are my M&P15A and my handy, dandy Smith&Wesson J-frame Model 60-14. They're both very practical and they're both well-built guns.

Well, this thread hasn't had much activity lately, so bump?

Just bought it.

Also, I saw in the OP and I was told at the gunshow I bought it at that I could put a rail on there if I wanted a light or vertical grip or something. How would that be done with those handguards? I REALLY like the feel of them, so I would prefer to not take them off, but in the future I would like to know how that option works.

I installed the Troy MRF-DI rails (same rail the S&W comes with). All you have to do is slide the delta ring down, pop out the handguard halves and slide the new ones in, tighten the screws and your done. It is easier to do if you have a person to hold down the ring and one to pop out the gaurds..or buy a handguard removal tool. Other rails require other methods of attatchment and/or gun smithing.

For just a light and a VFG I don't feel the need for a freefloat rail.

You could also probably just bolt on some rail section to the MOE handguards you have..You would still have to remove and re-install them but some sections of rail are less expensive than a rail like I have.

Default Armalite AR10-A4 Carbine 7.62x51mm

Hope you don't mind but just a little something different. It's an Armalite AR10-A4 Carbine 7.62x51mm Nato Flat-Top. I have the Carry Handle on because I was sighting in the iron sights.

It packs a lot of punch.....

Default New Guy Here

I'm glad to see everyone is enjoying their M&P's. I just ordered a M&P 15T. I can't wait to get my hands on it. My last AR was an Olympic Arms Plinker, that was purchased used from a local gun show several years back. I later parted with the rifle after having issues with it. I'm just glad to be getting back in the AR World considering. I think my first mod will be replacing the grip with a Hogues, I will post pics as it transforms

This is my Stag who was the original producer of the M&P-15 before Smith got tooled up. They also used to make the Rock River guns.

Nice Deaj. I was wondering what ammo your getting the best groups with.

Thanks! I'm very pleased with the 15t.

I haven't used anything but Federal and Fiocci target ammo. My results have been consistent enough with both to just keep buying the cheaper factory loads in 50 and 100 round boxes on the cheap.
