Hello All:
A little help would be appreciated. I have a S&W M&P 15 with the classic standard handguard. I want to replace it with a quad rail. I bought a cheap quad (Guide Gear at Sportsman's) and gave it a shot. It seems the ring that holds the original handguard does not fit the shape of the quad rail. This also seems the case for the ring at the front of the rifle attached at the front sight -the shape is not right. So, am I out the $50 I spent on the quad rail or is there a way to make this happen?

(I also won a sling at a FNRA dinner and found it does not fit -the sling swivels do not fit around the thick sling mounting rings on the rifle. Sigh...
Otherwise I am very happy.

It's going to require you to remove the gas block/sight base if it's a standard A2 sight. If you aren't comfortable beating on your gun with a hammer you might want to find a gunsmith to do it. The taper pins on the M&P15's can be a real bear to get out, and they drive out backwards from most other brands except Stag. The sight base will need to come off for both the D-Ring and the handguard cap.

It installs just like the regular handguards, although you have a couple of screws to tighten. It does not require the removal of the delta ring.

You may want to go with one of the better (but more expensive) brands like Knights Armament, Daniel Defense, Surefire, Midwest Industries, Troy or YHM.

Check the classified section of AR15.com; they're are used ones for sale all the time.

Also, know what shape (round, M4 or triangular) fore end cap you have before you buy.

The factory rails that S&W install on the railed models are made by Troy Industries. I have put Midwest Industries rails on a few before. They usually costs about twice what you spent on yours, but no worries when it comes to fit and finish. It's one of those things where you get what you pay for.

I would think it would be easier and a lot less trouble to just pick up one the other more quality rails than to replace the delta ring and all that. The Midwest Industries I installed required simply just pulling the D-Ring back with a strong grip and it dropped in.

That set of rails is about $150 retail. They take 3 minutes to install.

I put one of the Troys on mine several years ago. I had to remove the delta ring which was no big deal. Its really tight. I have an eotech and a light on the weapon.
