Another sigma spring question
So I ordered and received a solid recoil rod and 18 lb recoil spring kit from wolf. In the package comes an "extra power striker spring." The 18lb recoil spring is stated as standard weight. Why would I need to change the striker spring.

Why did you need the aftermarket recoil rod and spring?

Very Funny LOL
There will be none of that logic stuff applied please when responding!
Ok .. I hated the dinky plastic recoil rod. Never had a gun with a plastic recoil rod and its flexibility made me ... perhaps irrationally .. worry about it in a carry gun.

I totally understand Alex! I have over 1500 down the pipe as of yesterday and the recoil rod and spring are still springing. My wife shot her new 9VE for the first time yesterday and 239 assorted FMJ and JHP went down the pipe flawlessly. She put em' all center body mass! What did happen to mine was around 1200 rounds the striker broke. To be fair there were probably 1200 more dry fires but S&W said that wouldn't break it. They replaced it and actually took a bit off the striker and it breaks quicker. I am totally satisfied with the trigger. About 7 1/2, may 8# pull and not too long. This is a combat pistol without a external safety, the trigger needs to be long and hard. I don't want a "Plaxico" Glock! Think about it Alex, we have the "Made in the USA" Glock. Glock said it and the court agreed it was a copy. S&W is paying Glock. These Sigma's are work horses! Crimson Trace is bringing a Sigma laser to the plate in 2010. I'm not too sure how many $250. gun owners will be willing to spend $200. on something to entertain the cats but that tells you there are a lot of Sigma's out there.

The sigma isn't really a Glock "copy" any more than a P99 or any other pre-cocked striker fired polymer framed handgun.
The Glock lawsuit was over cosmetic reasons and resulted in SW paying an undisclosed sum to Glock and changing the look of the slide slightly.

They didnt get out of the lawsuit by changing the look of the slide slightly....they got out of the second lawsuit by redesigning the trigger mechanism....if you'd like to check it out go here.

Alex,
I fail to see where your question was answered here.
Suggest you ask Wolfe.

Heres what i could dig up:
Quote:
In the end, Smith and Wesson agreed to "remove the surface located below the sear in the Sigma Series Pistols, which Glock contends is a positive guide means, and Glock has agreed that such a modification would resolve the patent infringement claim."
While no one in an official position is willing to say how much S&W will pay Glock, informed sources put the figure at between $5 and $8 million.

Judge dismisses lawsuit against gunmaker, S&W and Glock settle suit | Shooting Industry | Find Articles at BNET
Whatever that means.
My information came from a member of this board quite a few years back (2004-5) that seemed to have quite detailed information regarding the law suit and his answer was that SW changed the inside of the slide in what was essentially a purely cosmetic modification.
In the end, the only way to really know what modifications took place would be to compare a pre-lawsuit pistol with a post suit one.

Take a look at the enternals side by side. It is the "Born in the USA" Glock sans the "Plaxico" trigger.

Yes the sigma is heavily influenced on the glock design, (which borrows heavily from other pistols) but it is far from a "copy".
Springer 1911 is a copy, Cimarron 1873 SAA is a copy, Tangfolio Witness is a copy. A sigma is a much a "copy" as a Beretta M92 is a copy of a Walther P38.

The recoil rod and striker spring come as a pair for the reason that if the gun has 3,000 + rounds thru it, the recoil spring and striker spring should be in need of replacement. You would replace them as a pair as they will have the same amount of cycles on them.
If you are changing out the rod with a small amount of rounds thru the pistol there should be no need to change the striker spring.
Steel guide rods are not needed but a lot of the small nicks that show up on the plastic end at the barrel are made during dis-assembly and assembly. When you push the guide rod off is groove on the barrel, it is spring loaded and nicks the rod as it pops out. If you are extremely carefull you can eliminate much of this wear. Once the spring and rod are in place there is no preasure on the front end of the rod, but there still is in rod contact at the barrel end. Over time the cycles wear that end of the rod.

That would be outstanding! It will probably be modeled after their design for the Springfield Armory XD series:
LASER-KING/CrimsonTraceLaser
I've loved my 40VE from the word go. A grip mounted laser would only make me love it more.
