Default SD40VE Trouble

I installed the Apex Tactical Spring Kit and Apex Polymer SD Action Enhancement Trigger kit, now I'm having issues with firing. Pulling the trigger doesn't engage the firing pin. Only when I rack the slide back about 1/4 of an Inch does it engage and I presume then it would fire. I haven't fired it yet since I've been having issues. Does anyone know if this is a non gunsmith issue, if I don't have to take this to a gunsmith that would be great.

Hey javilion,

You have to file a bit more off the trigger then.

It is explained at the end of the troubleshoot video

Details

One thing to keep in mind is that you can file it while the gun is assembled.

You file just a little bit at a time and test it... file and test it.

You will know when you hit that sweet spot.

The action will be crisp and clean.

So you can't dry fire the gun? You may need to file some off the back side of the trigger to get more pull out if it.

But before you do that I would make sure everything is installed correctly. Actually kind if sounds normal.....you have to rack the slide to get it to fire?

Sorry I didn't proofread my post, you have to hold down the trigger and pull back the slide about 1/4 inch at the same time before it engages

Did you just disregard my detailed reply, then javilion?

Told you exactly what to do and where to find the exact place to do it.

No, no.

I have thicker skin than that.

Just thought maybe you had a reason for not thinking that was what was wrong.

I had this problem with mine, too, several years ago. I ended up talking to Flork at Apex, and he talked me through it and pointed me to a video. I finally got it to work -- but ended up removing it because I didn't like the feel. The trigger kit can be a useful thing, and several people have reported liking theirs, but I reverted to the 'stock' configuration. Apex gave me good support too, so there are no bad guys in this story, I just fell back to what I was comfortable with. Good luck with yours; let us know when you get it running and how it feels compared to stock.

Sounds like the pistol is functioning properly.

When you "rack the slide back about 1/4 of an inch", you are resetting the striker on the sear.

Resetting the striker requires that rearward slide movement. The pistol is not a trigger-cocking double action design, so just pulling the trigger will not reset the striker (or "engage the firing pin").

Sorry for the late response, wasn't notified of this. A full slide rack isn't an issue, no different than if the gun was in firing condition.

Did you try the suggestion of fling the back of the trigger?

I did try that, I've been in contact with Apex for the last two weeks. I've filed on it 5 separate times, my main concern is filing too much off. At this point I've filed off so much trigger body it makes me wary to go further. I've sent video and pictures to Apex and am awaiting further assistance. I will continue to slowly file away trigger body, due to Apex verifying they would send a new trigger out to me if this one is too far gone

I've been speaking with a representative for a few weeks, I took a video of the issue and sent it to them per their request. They have suggested I need to file more trigger body to create more clearance to allow the trigger to move farther back but at the point I don't see how less trigger would help trip the firing pin. The only fix at this time is to pull the trigger down and simultaneously pull back the slide, only then do you hear the click and the firing pin engage to fire. Sorry for the extra information, I just wanted to make sure you knew what was happening with me in case your issue differed from mine in any way. Have you contacted Apex directly?

Default My Issue Seems Different

Thank you for the update. I think my issue was different. In dry firing (have not taken to range yet), gun would dry fire with a normal pull of the trigger. However, if I pulled the trigger slowly, the gun would not dry fire. I did speak with Apex and they stated I needed to file more off the back of the trigger so that there is about the thickness of a folded business card between the trigger and frame. I did not file off quite that much and the gun is dry firing fine no matter how quickly or slowly I pull the trigger. Hope this helps.

I have only made one mod to my SD9VE, the .9mm longer take-down bar (It has several names I know).

Anyhow I'm uneasy with the many-many threads and posts which refer to "file to fit" or some such thing.

Are our guns that variable or is it the aftermarket parts which need to be custom fitted?

The variable is the Apex Tactical Trigger, due to how they're manufactured, every so often they have a few that need some file work

Thanks,

If that's the case I won't use that product in my gun. I feel the same about the metal recoil spring assemblies what were damaging the guns.

My SD9VE seems to work fine so I'll just use it as it is now.
