Rookie Cleaning question - SW9ve

Hi All,

Sorry for the basic question but have only had revolvers prior to just purchasing a sw9ve. I understand how to clean the slide, barrel, etc. My question is what type of cleaning do you do to the frame once the slide is removed and the internals are exposed:
- Do you just brush clean it
- Do you use any cleaner (or not) in combination with a swab or brush

Better to ask before doing.

By the way, i love the sw9ve, shoots great, trigger pull is not that bad at all....of course i'm used to shooting DA revolvers.

I recently bought a 9ve and will be interested in what people say here. I was busting clay pigeons at 50 yards, they were on the ground not in the air.

it took me a bit to figure out how to take it apart, not as easy as my 1911's

I was planning to use CLP and a brush to clean.

I've heard some people use a foaming cleaning that is safe to use on polymer finishes then finish that off with a few drops of oil. As I understand it the Sigma likes to run almost dry.

Personally, I clean the inside of the slide and the rails with Hoppe's #9 and Q-Tips. Always leave a light application of Tetra grease on the rails and a light smear were the barrel and frame contact. As with any gun, run the solvent and brush through the barrel, patch out the mess until clean and patch a light application of your favorite gun oil through the bore. The Sigma is probably the easiest handgun to clean I've owned. They run dirty, too. I have a 40VE I didn't clean until I put about 400-500 reloads down range. No problem, I just got lazy this summer.

Just follow the booklet. Lubricate very lightly!

BTW: The sigma is much easier to take down than a 1911 or just about anything else for that matter.

I think the space shuttle is easier to take down than a 1911.

Have you guys ever taken down a XD pistol? Very simple just like the Sigma.

Maybe the 1911 seems super easy to me because I was taught to do it with my eyes closed in the military.
the 9VE, the big problem is I don't like the little tabs on the side you have to push down while holding the slide back, I keep pinching my hand with the slide back and I seem to have trouble with the little tabs.
I still feel like it will hurt the gun to pull the trigger when trying to take it down

The SW9VE breaks down just like the Glock. Be sure not to use too much oil or you will have problems. There are only six spots to lube on the gun. Clean the gun all you want just go very easy on the lube. if you have problems breaking down the gun, go to you tube and there are many videos showing how to do it. Good shooting everyone!!

And always run your brush and cleaning rod from the chamber end of the barrel.

I clean mine up with #9 a nylon brush and patches. Relube with M1 0W-20, park it ready for action. I put a detail on the barrel bore with some 40-x barrel cleaner and some Meg's Swirl-X. It's so easy to clean it's funny.

As a matter of fact, ask Blastfact for the YouTube links where he shows you the breakdown of the 9VE. This is a little PR for him, as I downloaded all of them and they were a great resource. I was able to take mine down, clean, lube, and reassemble the first time with absolutely no difficulty.
