Default Used SW99...worth $300?

I found a very nice condition, like new, used .40 SW99 for $325 OTD at a local gun shop. I may be able to talk him down to $300 as it is an employee owned gun and I have purchased a few new guns from the guy over the years. Any reasons anybody can think of for not getting it? I do already have a 40VE and have a G22 RTF2 on layaway at Gander Mountain at this time, but hey, why not a SW99?

Thanks.

Just my opinion, but that seems high.
You can probably get a new SW9VE for around that price and get the rebate or free mags with it,

I believe that the rebate on the Sigma expired and it doesn't look like an extension is coming. That said, I have a 4 week old, new 40VE. I don't know that I want another of the same gun.
There is an article in this months Handguns magazine that says it may be the only gun made that has two firearms manufacturers names on it and it could become collectible due to it's relatively short (6yrs) production run. I seems to be a tweener of the early Sigmas and the M&P.

They are good guns but there is a reason they discontinued them. Their are people who love them but they are more complicated than a sigma or a M&P for that matter. Sales were very poor on the SW99 and therefore there is little market for them used. While $300 is a decent price what are you going to be able to resell it for in the future?

In my opinion I would pounce on it if I were interested in a 40 S&W version. I have the S&W99 in 9mm and consider it the most undervalued semi auto in the S&W line. Mione has been totally reliable with a wide variety of bullet shapes and sizes and surprisingly accurate considering it's short barrel length with an excellent trigger. I particularly appreciate the unique ambidextrous mag release of the S&W99/WaltherP99 line.
I have owned a S&W Sigma 9VE but it is nowhere near the quality of the S&W99.

I am considering getting this one. As much as I like the Sigma and Glock guns (most polymer guns really) I think that I "need" this SW99.

I've owned both. I was much happier with the SW99. So much so that I just bought a couple more of them online. I wouldn't buy another SW9VE unless it was cheaper than dirt.

Default My 2 cents

Howdy,
My nephew dropped a SW99 in .40 off with me yesterday. He says he has never been able to shoot it very well.
I'm betting it is him, but you never know, and I'll shoot it by the end of the week.
I do know that everything about this gun fits me to a tee. The de-cocker, mag release and slide stop are located perfectly for my hand and the grip feels good too.
I'm not sure which grip strap he has on it.
I have never been a fan of plastic guns but I admit they can be reliable and accurate. Over the years I had a Glock 21 and a FNC 9. Both guns worked all the time and shot better than I expected.
I have to say, if this gun shoot as good as the Glock and FNC I'd choose it over them.
I'm looking forward to shooting it.

2/22 update. I took the SW99 to the range and fired 4 groups of five shots at 25 yards.(Off bags) All shots were in the black of a B-8 bulls eye target. Best group was five tens using a 6 O'clock hold and right at 2 1/2". Others ran as big as near 4".
I like it, but it is a .40 and I have this phobia about .40's. If I ever see a good deal on one of these in a .45 I'm gonna grab it!
Thanks
Mike

Charlotte (NC) PD just traded in a ton of SW99's in .40S&W. They seem to be selling in well used condition for $330-340. So $300 sounds like a pretty good price. I keep toying with the idea of buying one in 9mm (if I can find one) to go along with my decent collection of poly framed and DAO S&W 9mm's. Keisler's Police Supply had them for $275 a couple years back and I am still kicking myself for passing on that deal.

AIMSURPLUS gets PD trade-ins frequently, they go fast though
I agree, I would have preferred the SW99compact in 9mm, but what the heck, I'll work through it.

I have a SW99 in 40 s&w. Accurate, dependable and great ergonomics. The only downside is that in 40 s&w the 99 series has a very harsh recoil with 180 grain bullets. I compared it to a m&p 40 at the range two days ago. What a world of difference. I liked my single action trigger better that the m&p but I really could make that m&p trigger roll at speed with less felt recoil. Will I trade my 99? No. That TDA trigger is good for carry however I may have to file down that ski hill because it pinches my finger.
If you think you need it get it.

But the recoil of the 99 with 40s&w is a real kicker.

I hate to jump this thread with this, but I happen to have 2 different unused DeSantis holster for the S&W 99. If anyone here is interested let me know. I am planning on posting them in the for sale section, but caught this thread and thought I'd start here with a group of people that seem to enjoy the S&W 99.

IF this is not the proper thing to do on this forum, then moderator, please delete this post and my apologizes.
