SW40VE front sight fell off...
Yep, just what the title says. Pulled it out of the holster this afternoon to swap magazines and give it the daily once over, and when I went to dry-fire it noticed that the front sight was GONE... when I took the slide off there was a little round tab of like aluminum that might have covered where the bottom of the sight was 'melted' in, but that's all there was to be found.
Now the question is, do I take the time to call S&W and send it in just to have another melted on one put on it, or do I buy a Hiviz glock front sight and install that myself?

I had read a couple posts about people who raised hell with them getting night sights... I suppose I will let the Mothership have first crack at it, I don't want to send it in if I don't have to as it is my daily carry, if I don't have it all I have at the moment are a couple of Hi Points...

Well, just got off the phone with customer service, they don't have any sights that they can mail out for the "older pistols'... older? I bought it last summer. They offered to replace it for free if I sent it in. I think it'll be part Glock... at least it will be easily replaceable then. Maybe later when I win the lottery I can spring for some night sights.

Got the HiViz fiber optic sight in the mail today. Little bit of filing on the sight base and a bit of cleanup on the hole in the slide (not the best quality of machining I have seen, to be honest!) and the sight fit right in. The hardest part was getting the little 3/16" head retaining bolt started. Snugged it down and reassembled the .40 and so far really like it, although I won't be able to use my Don Hume JIT as it doesn't have any sort of a sight tunnel in it. Will probably shoot this weekend, hopefully the slightly shorter sight will raise the POA to where I like it.
It is a VERY overcast day, I was very pleased with the amount of light the fiber optic gathers... NOT night sights, but for $26 I can't find one fault in it. Came with a nifty little carrier for the extra sight pipes and a little plastic took to use to change them.
Some pics...

What was the model number and height of that sight?
When you do get to the range, let us know what affect the sight height has with the bullet weight you're using.
Thanks.

It measures 0.160", I bought it off of Amazon.com for $26.64 including the free shipping. The number on the box says its a GL2006 for all Glock models except for compensated or ported models. Hoping to go to my buddy's little range out back of his house, but he has an all weekend wedding to go to, so the wife is talking to him at work about just the two of us going down and plinking a bit, she is wanting to shoot some more, lol!

Finally got out to my buddy's place to do a bit of shooting today, my first priority was to check the SW40VE after putting the Glock sight on it. Shot 180gr Federal FMJ as usual, 10 yard target here. This is printed on 8 1/2 x 11 printer paper. Sighted with the top of the sights lined up exactly on the crosshairs on the target center. First shot just above the crosshairs. My spotter said second shot through the same hole, so I rapid fired the rest of the 14 rd magazine. I'm happy with it...
