Default Magazine interchangability SD-Sigma

I was at a local gun store where they just received a shipment of the SD 9 and 40. They also have Sigma's as well. The manager and I shoot silhouette together and I asked John if the magazines were interchangeable. He said, let's find out.....SD fits a Sigma and locks the slide back and vice versa. So one first impression it appears that the in fact do interchange. Anyone else have the same experience?

I just gotta ask. So are they cheaper, more capacity, more available, stronger or what?

They function and fire as well. SD mags are harder to come by. Used sigma mags can be picked up fairly cheap.

If I am correct, other than the foot plate, they are exactly the same! Price, capacity construction & availablity!

I assume you ask this to figure out why does it matter if they are the same.
If you want an extra mag for a SD, buy an extra mag for a SD!
Right?

The reason for my curiousity would be that if I purchased a SD9, & the Sigma 9VE mags were the same,
I would then have 7 - 16 round mags for each!
Which will come in handy in my USPSA shooting!!

While that thought may have crossed my mind, it wasn't formost.

Actually,I don't like the Sigma magazines with the massive base plates. Is the SD baseplate significantly thinner etc.

Also, if there was another alternative with some of the qualities I asked about, I'd be interested in checking them out.

It looks like it is just as thick but maybe not as pronounced front "finger rest" like the Sigma's.

Maybe one of the guys here who have both at home can compare the two foot plates.
Maybe you can just order the SD foot plate to replace your Sigma's plate.

If so, problem solved for very little cash!!

That's what I'm looking at as well. Otherwise, the Sigma floorplates are going to meet Mr.Belt Sander.

No disrespect intended; but I must ask????

Why do so may of us hate the base plate on the sigma mag?

I don't get it. If I need another sigma mag, I'll simply get another sigma mag.

None taken, Lee. The essential reason to change or modify the OEM Sigma plate is because it protrudes beyond the contour of the grip when in the gun; and it creates unnecessary square corners when carrying spare mags in the belt, back pocket etc.

Actually my wife noticed the square OEM baseplate corners when shooting my 40VE for the first time. I noticed them the first time I packed it IWB under a tail-out T-Shirt. Dang things gouged into my Tender Vittles Storage Unit.

Those of us who still ascribe to the 'smooth gun' concept find the OEM Sigma floorplate detestable.

Thanks for the clarification sir!

Our sigma is my girl's range queen; not used for carry. Now I get it!

Best regards,

Lee

The base of the sigma is thicker, the followers are also different on the SD, at least on the 40. They do interchange and function fine. For Carry the SD mags are much more comfortable.
