Initial Impressions:
I field stripped the new SW9VE. What I could see without farther disassembly appears well made. The polymer frame has no excess flashing or flaws. The metal components appear well machined and are well finished if not polished. The barrel appears to be excellent. I saw no obvious assembly issues. The infamous "tampon" spring damper in the trigger spring seems to be in place and nice and tight.
I did a quick light solvent cleaning (to remove any preservative) avoiding the "tampon", ran a gun cloth over the major components, ran a very lightly oiled patch through the bore and applied oil to the 6 recommended points very lightly. I disassembled the mags and cleaned them and used a silicone (dry type) based spray.
Trigger:
It appears grit free although a bit long and having just a touch of stacking (weight increase) just before the break. Although that could be an illusion because the pull is long enough my finger starts to lose leverage just before the break (I have a wide hand but short fingers. That forces me to engage the trigger at the base of the pad instead of in the joint when my arm is correctly aligned with the pistol). Their is no crepe or over travel.
Dry Firing Practice:
I am having no problem with keeping a penny on the front site when I do my part. However I need to strengthen my weak hand as a I start to drop the penny after about 6 repetitions on one hand weak side drills.
Conclusion:
Overall for $249 after rebate I think I got my moneys worth. Im cautiously optimistic that we will get along well. Im going to try to get to the range later this week. Dont expect to much as Im far from an expert shot and have not shot a pistol in decades.
PS Did I miss anything in getting ready for the pistols first trip to the range?
