Question Longer and/or ported barrels S&W Sigma .40?

Anyone know if there is even a company that still makes an extended/ported barrel for a Sigma .40? I found one once @ Arizona Gun Runners - Fire Dragon Sigma Ported Barrels but when i called to order it they said it was discontinued. Which doesn't make any sense seeing as they were made when ordered anyways. Any thoughts or comments?

AFAIK, production of aftermarket Sigma barrels is a thing of the past. There were reports of problems with the cheap ones, and low volume on the expensive ones. Hard to justify a $200 barrel on a $300 gun.
You might find one floating aaround somewhere, but don't expect manufacturer support if it doesn't work.

There are aftermarket barrels being made for the new M&Ps.

yea but i got a sigma. I liked the look more then the M&P's. Do u know if the 4.5" barrels from the old Sigma line will even fit the new ones. Cuz if so ill get my hands on one and port it my self or get a friend to do it. I think it would look pretty cool even thou some ppl don't think so... as well as decreasing muzzle rise with out cutting into my slide.

Probably could be made to work, but suspect it would need some fitting. First thing to do would be measure the present barrel at the muzzle bearing surface and the longer barrel where it will ride in the new gun. If that's too small...well,.....brings on more talk.
One fellow made a 9mm barrel into a .357 Sig chambering and fitted it into a .40 S&W Sigma frame, and it worked. Said it took him 6 hours to chamber ream and fit it.

Thumbs up

?"First thing to do would be measure the present barrel at the muzzle bearing surface and the longer barrel where it will ride in the new gun."? OKFC05

OK, so in order to know before I go out 2 a gun show n buy an old sigma (or how ever i find a "new" old 4.5" barrel) I should ultimately take MY Sigma with me and see if the barrels are even interchangeable... Kinda kills the buyn on-line thing, but ok... Now if i have to much "free play" (say more then a 1/16 or 1/32)between the barrel and the slide... then i cant do it with that barrel... right?

And about muzzle bearing surface. What do you mean?

Hard to point to the barrel on the internet.
Basically a Sigma barrel must fit at the hood (the part that sticks up into the slide), the lugs, and have proper clearance at the muzzle for the barrel to tilt and move back and forth.

What I'm cautioning is that I don't know if the older, longer barrel is dimensioned such that it will work in the VE guns. Before I spent any money, I'd find out. It might drop in, it might require fitting, and it just might not work reliably at all.
I'm not a gunsmith, but I do know that if the barrel requires extensive fitting, either do it yourself (tricky) or bring $$$.
Good luck.

Had the problem after a couple of weeks looking for an extended barrel in 9MM. Very easy for average Joe WITH SOME PATIENCE to do their own barrel. Takes a good day to do the work with simple tools, but the patience is the key part. Message me for details. I WILL TELL YOU HOW I DID IT, BUT I WILL NOT DO THE WORK OR BE LIABLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS I CAN NOT CONTROL THE OUTCOME OF THE WORK ANYBODY DOES. YOU DO IT SOLELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. That said, just trying to help those that love the gun get what they want out of it.

The older "F" model barrels will fit the newer models from "C" to "VE" and hang out about 1/2" to port or thread (no shoulder) or whatever. the only issues i ran into is that my plastic recoil rod couldn't take it. it shot through a mag or two with the longer barrel, went back to the rang later that night for my ccw class and had to borrow one of their guns because the recoil rod had snapped. i've since replaced it with a dpms double spring metal rod combo and ZERO issues.
but to answer the simple question yes it does fit the guns barrel lock just fine and so do some other barrels out there that are already threaded but i'm no mentioning them as i don't want to be responsible for someone's screwing up as i've only just recently been using one and can't count out luck on the other brands barrel just working for me, but the "F" versions i've used have been well tested over a couple years.

If you port the barrel I'm wondering if you are also anticipating the work needed on the slide...?

Cheers!
