Default Allied Black Sigma vs ugly two tone Sigma

I hate the two tone color of the Sigma. They make an Allied Forces (Afghan) all black one, but they are not common and want more for the color. Too bad, as I would bite on one of the Allied black ones with the S&W rebate as would my co-worker, but NOT on these two-tone ones.

Let's see what the others think about the ugly two tone sigmas?

Looks like not all agree!

Now that you mention it, I noticed the all-black Sigma models have been dropped from the S&W website. Probably some still out there with dealers or on the used market.

The SDs are available in all black (improved Sigma).

Buy it, then hit it with John Norrel's Moly Resin in semi-gloss black. It just about perfectly matches the frame. Be sure to properly prep. it first.

The Allied Forces and the GVE both left the website the same day the SD's appeared.

The only AF's I've seen since then have been the ones that come in the survival kit.

Can't wait to shoot the SD9!

My 442 is black, the wife's 642 is silver (with pink grips) so the two tone is a nice compromise since we'll both be shooting it and neither one carrying it.

Here is my SW9E (no v because there is no stainless steel). Melonite slide and melonite barrel. Pre-dated the Allied Forces models by several years. So far it has proven to be perfectly reliable and surprisingly accurate.

I like the Allied Forces and the black finish does have its advantages. I wore it on a robbery detail this week and when that baloon goes up, all you want the other guy(s) to see are muzzle flashes.

AF's are becoming harder to find. I checked with lots of police supply outfits before I finally gave up, called S&W and had them ship one to the nearest supply house. It was going to be an 'agency letterhead' gun anyhow.

Question White SW Logo on my Allied Forces Sigma

New to the forum and notice this post on Allied Forces black Sigmas, I have a question on my AF Sigma; the SW logo on the handle is overlaid in white on both sides, it looks nice and adds a nice contrast, I have looked at several pictures/images on line of the AF Sigma and all the handles have the SW logo in black, does this mean that the white overlaid color will wear off in time on the logo?

I didn't know they came in any other color but black until I read this forum.

If mine earns a permanent place (which it well may) I plan to try one of the magic sprays and make it all black like it should be. Is there a gunsmith out there that does this sort of thing regularly?

Maaco?

I know this is an old thread, but,

a friend of my recently passed away. his wife gave me all of his guns and ammo. One of the guns was an SW9VE Allied forces Sigma with 4 mags. It has an RAMxxxx serial number and was made in 2007. The trigger is horrendous but I am working on it by having the sear polished and the pigtail removed along with exchanging the outer spring on the sear by Sigmatriggers.com. The striker spring will stay the same. He fired it all of 150 times. There is not a scratch on the rails or a mark on the gun. I don't know if I will keep it or sell it. Seems to be worth more as a keeper given the prices I am seeing. All in all I got 3 guns, a case of 9mm, 3 bricks of 22LR (Eley), extra mags, cleaning supplies, an Uplula, an air gun, a sling shot, and more.

Just had my SW9VE's sear done by sigmatriggers. Much smoother and lighter. I think you will be pleased.

It (the trigger group and sear) should be here tomorrow, thursday. I will put it back in and head to the range. Jeff told me on his gun it measured 5.2# but mine should be a little more since the sear has not really had time to seat. I will post once I shoot.

Very similar to my experience with Jeff. He seems like a good guy.

I had to contact Jeff about my trigger pull. I used weights instead of a trigger gauge. My trigger measured 12+ before the work and unfortunately, measures 9.5 after. While it is smoother, it is still too heavy for any degree of accurate shooting. I have contacted him as he has guaranteed his work.

I took the slide apart and gently polished the area where the sear engages the striker hook. Polished it to a nice mirror finish (took no metal off) and this improved the trigger pull significantly. I will shoot it for a while and then report back. It feels nice in the hand and hopefully it will work its way in to a good shooter.

What did you use to polish the striker hook? Did you hear back from Jeff? Thanks.

Personally I hate the two-toned look, especially when it's a silver slide on a black frame (the old 1911s with a blue slide on a silver frame didn't look too bad). However I didn't buy my SD9VE for its looks or to spend money playing around with it. It's a working tool that I bought cheap and I intend to leave it as-is.

I have a cheapo dremel tool from Harbor freight that does not spin real fast. Put on a small buffer wheel with Mother's Mag wheel polish and took off the black and it shined up nicely. Jeff said to just shoot it and let him know how it responds. He said he had never had one measure so heavy after the work. I used free hanging weights from my lab, hung from a stiff wire. It did not touch the grip at all, so there was no added friction. I measure 9.5 #. I guess it may be 8 or 8.5 now.
here is what mine looks like:

Nice looking. I may try polishing the striker hook. I'd guess mine at around 7 to 8 pounds after Jeff finished. Don't have a gauge. May try your weight method. thanks.

Finally got around to polishing the striker hook on my SW9VE. Used some 1500 grit paper and polished the hook where it engages the sear. Made a noticeable difference in both trigger smoothness and weight of the pull. Between this and the SigmaTrigger sear work and spring, it's now a much better pistol.

Update: Finally broke down and bought a trigger scale. Sigma measures out around 7.75 to 8 pounds now. Had been over 12 before the sear work. That's decreasing the pull by about one third. I can live with that. In contrast my two Glocks measure out around 6 - 6.5.

I personally like an all black pistol. However, the big advantage to a stainless slide is that it holds up better to scuffs and scraps than a black finish - if that is important to you.

just measured my trigger after Jeff's work, and my polishing of the striker shelf. Trigger measures around 7 lbs, sometimes more, sometimes less. It is very functional and accurate. It was given to me, so I will honor my friends memory and keep it.

Pretty much the same story here. Mine measures somewhere between 7.5 and 8. Sometimes closer to 7. Whatever, it's a much better shooter than it was and I've been open carrying it for the last several days.

Glad you're keeping your friend's pistol.

I'm warming up to guns in different colors...

I've got the all black SD9 and generally that's what I like. But I also have a FNX-9 in bright stainless and like the way it looks; it is a lot like the current SD9VE/SD40VE in its two-tone appearance. It is far easier to clean underside of the bright stainless slide than the all-black slide.

But the various color options now in the SD9/40 family -- including gray and FDE -- are kinda growing on me.
