Default 9ve vs SD9

I know that the early sigma had there problems .. But my question is if your a first time buyer which would a better choice .... Im not talking money because they are both well priced. I already know at this time I dont want an m&p because it is out of my price range so im asking which is better for the first time buyer

If money is not an issue then I would go with the SD as it has a front night sight and a lighter trigger.

I like my Sigma but I feel that the SD is the better buy for the money.

Welcome to the forum!

I think they are both great pistols, but I would personally go with the SD9. I have owned my SW40VE for well over a year now and I do love it. But I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with a friend's SD9 and it's very nice. I prefer the melonite finish on the slide and the factory installed front night sight is a nice touch. The standard accesories rail on the SD series is also a plus compared to the unique design on the Sigma which requires an adapter. In my opinion, the SD9 is the bridge between the Sigma line and the M&P. It seems as if S&W took cues from both and merged them together. Just some food for thought.

I purchased an original 9MM Sigma (Where's Waldo?) in the early 1990s. I had ZERO problems with through 1000s of rounds. The Tennessee Highway Patrol carried the original .40 Sigma for many years without any reported problems.

I then purchased one of the very first .40 Sigma 'value models' when they first hit my dealer's shelves. Again, ZERO problems with it.

The ONLY thing I recall EVER being told NOT to do, with regards to ANY Sigma, was to 'dunk it' when cleaning it, as the trigger return spring contained a 'felt plug' (to absorb recoil harmonics during firing, IIRC) and the loss of this plug will lead to spring faiure.

I had a sigma very good gun but once i shot an SD i traded my sigma for the SD.I have the SD 40 and would not trade up even for the M&P.For my hands i like the grip on the SD better. That"s my opinion and i'm sure others like the M&P .

Im actually going to buy the SD9 here shortly even though I own the Sigma 9mm. I sometimes carry my Sigma and although I have total faith in the gun the trigger is just so much harder than what i usually carry id rather carry the SD9. Plus you can't beat the natural feel of the gun.

That being said i think ill wait until S&W works all the bugs out of the SD before I buy one

First, welcome to the forum.

I don't think you can go wrong either way.

The SD has a few upgrades and costs a little more. The black finish and night sight are a nice touch. I couldn't care less about the rail, but for those who like rails, the standard one on the SD will make it easier to buy gadgets. The lighter trigger should make target shooting a bit easier.

I have the siggy and I'm very happy with it, accurate, 100% reliable and fun to shoot.
