Default sear Housing Block Sigma

Sent my 9VE Sigma back to S&W because You folks suggested it because of some misfires. They sent it back very promptly, less than a week. The invoice (no charge under extended warranty) indicated they replaced the sear housing block assembly.

Test fired to standards...Great...can anyone tell me what the sear housing block assembly does, because even at the expense of sounding like a dummy, Im not a gun smith and dont frankly know what it does.

Cudos to S&W for prompt service!!!!!!!!

Sear is the part that engages, pulls back, and releases the striker, causing the gun to fire when you pull the trigger.
Trigger linkage hooks to sear assembly.

do you know what would cause the primer to be struck but the round not to fire? Would a bad sear cause a premature striker which results in a light strike?

Light strikes can be caused by weak striker spring, dirt in channel, excessive oil, ammo related problem. Dont really know what you mean by premature striker. If someone did some work on the sear it could be breaking early, all the sear block does is engage the striker, pull it to the rear, then releases it.

Might just be a bad primer, it happens. Should be very rare with good ammo (I'll make up a statistic: > 1 in 10,000), if it happens frequently then you have a problem.

But yes, if the striker is released early it may not have enough energy to fire the primer.

just to bring everyone back up to date.. Gun was misfiring. sent back to S&W and they replaced the sear housing.. Im trying to understand the relationship between the sear housing and the misfires... I think Marlin.357 may have explained it......I was trying to ask that very question....If the sear releases the striker prematurely..........thanks guys
