I have re-done the lettering in a different color. I'll get a pic of it now, and add it here.

from my perspective the sd 40 is a good gun. I have about 500 rounds downrange no problems yet. I read just about everything that has been wrote about them and i would recommend it to anybody.

It seems the SD series gets off on the wrong foot because of the early problems with the Sigma line. The SD series is beginning to prove itself with time.

I have nothing against the SD.If the Sigma had not been a choice to buy between the 2 I would own an SD.I just can't see me spending the extra dollars for a gun that is as close to the Sigma as it is.

For right now I think the SD's are great guns.

Looks great, good size, nice weight to a fantastic price. I just don't like the grips - feels kinda uncomfortable to me.

Unfortunately I did not go to the range yet. But I try to go soon...

Don't get me wrong. The 18 grips are fine, I just don't like the plastic...

I would have put either more aggressive (30LPI) checkering or rubber grip inserts if I was the design engineer.

The SD40 is a great firearm in my mind. The grips angle is one of the things that sold me on it over the Sigma as well as the front slide serrations. I put 150 rounds through it at the range yesterday with out any problems. Well... there were plenty of problems with the shooter... I need to learn this trigger haha.

I put a pachmayr grip glove on mine, it's great. Read a review of the SDs the other night, the 'expert' ended by saying it was different in several ways from the sigma, and similar to the M&P in several ways- he named quite a few- and in the end, he really preferred it over the sigma, special mention of the trigger, grip and width. But still likes the sig as well, saying 'it's a Smith- what's not to like?'.

Glad to finally see a color-fill on an SD. I can't get over how good these guns look. I sold my SD40 and really wanting the SD9 now. I shoot fairly decent with the 40 but think I can do better w/ a 9.

Absolutely! I have an extra for my Glock 17 did a cut or two on it and it works great on my SD9. Now it fits my hand real nice, the palm swell fills the gap.

I was immediately drawn to the SD the first time I saw it. GREAT looking firearm, and if it's as comfortable to hold and shoot as the Sigma, then it's a winner.

Someone did their homework at S&W. I also think there are a lot simularities between the Sigma, SD, and M&P. Sort of like Chevette, Impala, and Buick. Think about it in a production standpoint.

As much as I scrutanize my SD, I do really like the gun. So I figured since I had the camera out it was time to add pics to this thread. No aftermarket parts that you can see although not too long ago it was wearing hogue grips.

This my SD9. I am on another S&W 3rd Gen hunt, but as soon as my saving account has been replenished I am going to pick up a second one. Already have the Apex spring kit sitting here waiting it.

Where did you hear that? I can't imagine them discontinuing their newest semi-auto series already.

Check in the "is your SD loose" topic. Someone posted it on S&W fb page and they confirmed it in their response to the person's post. This was posted after I posted what I saw on fb:
"Smith & Wesson Corp. ‎Brad Paynter - you are correct. I just looked at the 2012 price list and the SD9 and SD40 are no longer listed meaning...out of production. As for why? Lots of models ome and go, it all comes down to some top secret magic formula that only finance people pretend to understand. But no worries, if you own one, we'll cover it under the Lifetime Service Policy. And if you want one - I'm sure they are available at retail."

Well, if you heard it from the horses mouth, then it must be on the up and up. Kinda strange they would discontinue a model that has only been out a couple of years and that seems to be pretty popular.

I agree, keep the Glock 22. They make awesome paper weights and door stops. If you have two and some para cord you can also make some crazy nunchaku. I suppose you could even make a really cool lamp out of one. But if it's a good reliable gun you want, then yes trade it or sell it and get an SD9.

SD40. I have several handguns but the SD is my absolute favorite. My glocks don't even come close. If it wasn't for the huge aftermarket world for glocks I wouldn't even own one! Great price. Great gun. Great company. AMERICAN

Did I do something wrong by bringing back an old post? Are you offended by it? My magic wand is in my back pocket.

SW40c,,,this is the 100%GLOCK that S&W made in the 1980's.
It put SW into bankruptcy.
I still carry it and use it.

Absolutely not...
"Sometimes dead is better"........but not when we're talking about guns

Besides, I've got a past, I might have revived a few dead threads in my time.
Plus, I really like seeing these fine firearms getting a little love over their.... higher priced counterparts.

I am so happy to see another member that thinks the same way as I do.
S&W made the SD9/SD40 back in 2009 and 2010. When they saw it was hurting MP sales they discontinued it. They combined the Sigma with the SD and made the SDVE series. If you notice, the original SD9/SD40 had a Trijicon front night sight and a regular steel 2 dot rear sight.
In 2014 S&W teamed up with Academy Sporting Goods to revive the SD9/SD40. This time they came with HI-VIZ sights. Now there are several different makes of the SD series, but the all black SD9/SD40 can only be bought at Academy. The others are sold all over at gun stores across the US.
My 2016 SD9 below. It's a REAL tack driver!
