Default My SW40V can fire w/out mag

What exactly does that mean? It is gray polymer and stainless. Eats anything you put in it. Shoots pretty straight when you try.

If there is a shell in the chamber, and no mag. in the gun, it will fire if you pull the trigger.

Some pistols have a "magazine safety" which prevents the pistol from firing with the magazine removed. Two advertized benefits, 1. protects those who think by dropping the magazine that they have "unloaded" the pistol. 2. in a gun grab if you can drop the magazine in the struggle you won't get shot with your own gun. On the other hand, many feel that a magazine safety is a liability, a single shot pistol is better that a awkwardly shaped club.

on the other hand if the mag is dropped on accident or if vthe person that dropped the mag during a struggle is not the owner of the gun, the gun will still fire. This may or may not be a good thing. I personally feel that if the gun is not ready to be fired it shouldn't be loaded. If you are in a close struggle you probably should not have your gun out to begin with. I think its very important to know how to defend yourself w/o the gun also. the gun should be a last resort. If you can rip their sack from their body, thats better than using a gun and cheaper in the long run too. Guns and Karate have alot in common, you learn Karate so you'll never have to use it and you carry a gun so you'll never have to use it. If you have to you're probably in the wrong situation to begin with. But if as a last resort its always an option.

Cool

I do not like magazine safety gizmos.

In my view being able to fire without the magazine in, is a very good thing. It allows you to reload with one in the chamber and still have a servicable weapon in your hand.

There are many guns out there to choose from with varying degrees of safety devices on them.

When passing a gun around from person to person at the range, or a novice handling the gun, these things can be a good idea. However, a seasoned vet with a sigma in hand has all the safety that he or she needs.

I believe that a shooter and gun should be one.

Vector, ill have to disagree with you on this subject. I have been in Tae Kwon Do since I was 7 or 8 years old; so roughly about 25-26 years. I guess I wanted to be like Bruce Lee or Frank Dux (he basically wrote a special forces handbook for the military) lol. That being said I never learned the art with no intention of using it. Ill use your example with the gun. I think of it just like I think of using a gun. If the opportunity presents itself a thorough *** kicking or a bullet and not necessarily in that order; which ever comes first. However , if a have a choice Ill eliminate the threat with fire power. That would reduce the chance greatly of either having the tables turned and me getting my *** kicked or knifed or whatever unforeseen threat! Obviously, If I cant get to my weapon then its knuckle sandwich time!
