I just got me a brand spanking new SD 40, pretty excited about it, so I went out with a couple of friends to fire it. One of the boys in the group was this annoying and really grabby guy who has no respect for other people's property, and if I knew he was like that I wouldn't have let him tag along. The SD 40 was a pretty accurate firearm and I was very pleased with the design. Anyway, when it got to the grabby guy's turn to fire: he kept slapping the gun's handle with his hand, then he pushed the mag release button while holding the mag in, picked at the finger grooves with his filthy nails, picked at the disassembly lever with his nails (saying he was trying to figure out what that latch was for even though the damn guy own 4 semi-automatic handguns already), and started scratching his nails on the engraving on the slide. Now I didn't notice any damage to my shiny new gun but it's hard to tell with the finger grooves. Now this guy isn't coming along with us anymore, but how durable/scratch-proof is the gun's polymer frame and slide? I'm kinda OCD about my things and I didn't see any visible aesthetic damage and I'm just curious if any long-time SD 40 owners have any wear problems.



PS: Anybody have recommendations for a good holster for the SD 40 that holds a laser sight as well?

The polymer is somewhat similar to the handle on a quality toothbrush, so you can use one of those to experiment on.
Pretty tough stuff, but rocks and metal can scratch it.

^ Hey thanks. Well what bugged me the most was that I told everybody there that the gun didn't have a manual safety, and he kept trying to pry the slide release lever up. I didn't notice any loose parts or visible scratches hoping that steel is harder than his nails, so it should be good, right?
