Default SD40VE Rear Sight Replacement!!

This weekend I was going through my toolbox and found my original M&P 9 rear sight that I took off when i was installing my night sights on the M&P. So, i installed it on my SD40VE to replace that plastic sight that came on it.

So what do you think?

Looks good. I actually did the same thing with mine. My M&P sports Warren Competition sights and I still had the original, so I threw the steel M&P sight on the SD.

Even if I hadn't had the spare, the part nre is only like $13. Money well spent IMHO to get rid of the plastic sight.

I can see me doing that to mine soon. You can get the M&P sight on Midway USA for $16.49. That's a pretty cheap upgrade.

Not difficult at all. My friend has a sight pusher and it went on easy!

If you don't have access to a sight pusher a brass drift punch works fine too.

Put the sight even in the middle at first. Take it out and shoot it some. If the shots need to come to the right, drift it to the right. If it needs to go to the left, drift to the left.

Even when I've had sights installed by a smith all they do is fit them - you still have to make any potential adjustments yourself.

Not trying to hijack the thread but speaking of sight replacement, when I was at the range Thursday I noticed my SD9VE shoots super low, I mean from 30 feet it is 18” low! my 686 .357 mag is dead on from 30 feet, the same with my colt 1911 and my 9mm shield so I am confident it is the pistol, is there a way to raise the rear sight?

I assume you're lining up the sigma sights' dots in a straight line. My older sigmas (SW9V) have always needed the front dot above the rear (to form a triangle) at about 15yds when using 115gr plinking ammo. +p ammo does not have this problem

Yeah, it happens when I line up the sights “correctly” If I raise the front dot almost above the rear sights I can get the rounds on target. The windage is fine just that low shot is bugging me. I am firing 115 grain reloads but once again, no problem with my shield firing the same rounds.

That's true, IF you can catch them in stock. I had an e-mail notification set up, and by the time I logged into Midway, they were all sold out!

I have put the M&P rear sight on my SD9VE, and am looking for another for the 40. One thing to bear in mind is that when you order the rear sight, you don't get the allen screw. I called S&W CS and they sent me a couple for free.

I'm aware now after some searching that the SD line shares a rear sight with the M&P line. I think Dawson may have different height rear sights BUT how about the front? Is it like the SW series Sigmas? If so read this SW40VE front sight replacement
Also, it is probably a little low due to the long heavy trigger, search "sigma low left" and you'll see it's common
