Default Cocked or not?

We were discussing Sigma in the THR forum and they said the Sigma is half cocked at rest. I said it's not because it cock and fire the gun when you squeeze the trigger just like a revolver. One member said what I said is incorrect.

Who's right?

you are correct the sigma/sd platforms are dao hence no safety to deal with plus if it werent dao then the trigger pull wouldnt be the same each and every shot

Most striker-fired pistols are not true DA. Do this experiment -- unload your gun, pull the trigger. The strker should drop. Pull the trigger again -- if the striker fires again without the slide moving, it's true DA; if it instead requires the slide to be moved slightly to the rear before trigger reset, it's not DA. I don't know if you could say technically that the striker is at halfcock, but it is partially cocked.

Pisgah's right.
Trying to apply the old "single action/double action" terminology to the striker fired guns only results in confusion and arguments.

No, the striker is not at "half cock" because a striker gun does not have half cock. The striker is engaged and in locked position until the trigger is pulled enough to release the striker locking pin.

Trying to use "half cock" regarding a striker gun is as pointless as trying to decide whether your Ford Pickup is a wagon or a carriage.

I'd say yes it's cocked, but only at about 5%. Maybe the striker is "engaged" would be better terminology than cocked?

I have another DA pistol. When you pull the slide and chamber a round. It's 100% cocked. When you pull the trigger the sear drops straight down to move out of the way of the striker. When pulling the trigger the striker doesn't move rearward at all like the sigma does.

J Rich pretty much nailed it, unless the trigger is pulled all the way back the gun will not fire.

Id considering them a recoil dependent DA
