Default need opinions

hello guys

Well im a new guy to the forums and to gun ownership.

I just purchased my first firearm a few days ago picked up a S&W SD40VE for $300 and i was wondering if anyone has had the chance to shoot one of if you own one and how you like it.

I'm in Wisconsin and we just got a foot of snow the other day so i haven't gotten to take it out yet.

What im looking for an opinion on is a accessory rail system like this one on amazon -

Amazon.com: UAG Tactical Precision Machined Aluminum No Gunsmithing Weaver Picatinny Top & Bottom Rail Pistol Handgun Scope Mount for Sights , Lasers , Lights and Accessories Fits Smith & Wesson S&W 1911 M&P SD9 SD40 Pistols with Front Accessories Ra

Seeing i haven't gotten to shoot it yet i am not sure on what the cartage ejection is and if this item would work without obstructing anything on the gun

any input would be most helpful thanks

I have always thought that a scope on a handgun was awkward at best, and tends to defeat the purpose of a handgun. Makes some sense on something like a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter model or others used for hunting where you want to increase the useable range of the gun.
For any self defense use which is almost always close, a scope is just in the way.

Unless you have some visual imparement which requires you to use an optical sight system, first learn to use the sights that came on the gun. Pay an instructor for a few hours of his/her time and it will pay big dividends in the long run.

In other words learn the basics, before adding gimcracks & gehaws....

Default I shoot for fun

I shoot for fun and all that stuff would just get in the way for me. And I think that bracket to mount the scope is bogus. Kind of like having an airfoil installed on the back of the family car. It looks ok (maybe) in the picture but I'll bet when you are actually handling the gun, putting it down, picking it up, loading and unloading, it will become very clumsy.

A complete and total waste of money. You'll find that once you get the scope or what ever you put on it sighted in, once you remove the mount to clean the handgun, it will need sighted in again. Not only that...it's *****!!
