Default SD40VE Barrel Polishing??

Question? Has anyone polished there barrel on any of their firearms? I seen videos on youtube about polishing barrels and thought about doing it. I am half and half on the idea. Any thoughts or comments about this.

It's a little bit of work and patients. Just doing the Barrel isn't bad (cause not much of it is seen) when you get into doing the slide it becomes tedious. If you plan to just polish what's seen from the extraction port that's the easiest. If you go all the way to the muzzle you will get the barrel smiles. Only they will be dull instead of shiny. Anywhere you have a shiny rub now will become a dull rub once that piece is polished unless you tackle the cause as well.

Keep in mind polishing can be addictive.

That would be a good question for S&W. Mine is so far out of warranty I don't bother calling.

Working on mine right now. Has anyone that polished the SD40VE had small pitting on the rectangle part of the barrel? If so did you start of with 600grit or so to smooth those out and work up to the 2000 and 3000?

It's mostly for looks. If you have friction points in the gun you could polish those out for smoother action.

I would like to do an SD. I haven't seen one yet, that doesn't it's not out there. Seems the SD wouldn't be easy due to all the different contours of the slide, but I'd like to give it a try.

I just finished polishing my SD40VE barrel and it looks great! I used 1000 and 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and some Mothers Polish!

For the slide I sent it to James at XDHS2000.com for him to refinish the slide in black and have a set of TruGlo TFO sights put on! Can't wait to get it back!

Same thing i did for the barrel. 1500grit then 2000grit wet sand and finished with Wizards metal polish. That wizards takes the fine scratches out real easy

I polished one of my mags, and lost interest. Nobody sees the mags and will be scratched due to loading and unloading with all the junk that gets in the mag well.

On the other hand polished mags go well with the rest of the gun being polished.

I had a brain fart. I was thinking you have the gun that perfectcircle1 does. I was stating that polished mags would go well with that gun.

I meant no disrespect and didn't realize they were SD mags. I did mine cause I could as well.

I withdraw my previous post cause it wasn't intended as it sounded.

Polish away my friend.

I did 2 of them. It's pretty easy. 600 grit wet sand to 2500 in 2-300 steps, then Mothers. The trick is to make sure all the "scratches" from the previous grit are gone before moving up. Took about 3 hours each. Just the barrel should be like 20 minutes. My nephew said it was like a Yugo with rims. I sold them in the ghetto for 40 crack rocks, decent bag of weed and 2 crack ho's for the night each! Wifey and I have crossed over and EDC's are a G26 for her and a G30 for me. Had the Glocks a little over a year now and have so far resisted the urge to polish. Just go for it!

Hello you guys I thought I would chime in because I am going to be starting polishing slides, barrels, and magazines. I AM NOT AN FFL so do not send the whole gun but if you send me a STRIPPED slide (Slide with EVERYTHING removed) ill polish it up for you. If I have to do the dissassembling of slide then it is an extra 15$. So its 50$ for slide. Now a lot of people like different looks so if you want for an extra 25$ you can have the barrel polished as well! Which in my opinion looks better with the black barrel in the polished slide but we all have different tastes so anyway. Magazines also look really nice polished up so if u want you can send those for an extra 25$ each as well. Some people also like
Polished Slide - 65$ (50$ Send Dissasembled)
Polished Barrel - 30$ (25$ as combo)
Polished Magazine - 30$ (25$ as combo)
Polished Guide Rod Tip - 5$ (Free with 50$+ combo)
Return Shipping - 5$ (2+ items 10$)
100$ - Slide(Disassembled), Barrel, Magazine, Guide Rod, Free Shipping
Turn around time is a week max after I recieve item. You should have your items back within a week. I am just like you I go crazy having my gun in pieces so once I recieve the work will be done. Thanks for looking check my posts for pix.

I did mine. I did the mags and the barrel. Almost did the slide but I thought it might be too much bling.
