Default New SD9VE Cleaning

Last night I purchased a SD9VE. Instructions indicate that the gun be cleaned. What gun cleaner and oil work best for this gun.

Thanks y'll.

You'll get a lot of opinions. Some will insist you need a certain kind of lube over another. You'll find what you like.

I personally use Hoppes #9 for heavy duty cleaning and rem oil for light cleaning. I always use Hoppes in the barrell. Sometimes I'll simply do a light lube with the rem oil if I know I'll be shooting it again soon. If I think it'll be sitting for a while I'll lube with break free clp.

Hoppe's #9, or CLP, and a boresnake.

Well, seems as good as any thread for my first post. I acquired an SD9VE several months ago and for my virgin cleanjob I decided on the Slip 2000 assortment of clean 'n lube stuff. Most any products made for the job will probably be just fine, everyone has their magic cleaning potions and arcane methods they are loyal to but most of them will get you by, no sweat.

I've tried various products, and most of them will work just fine...I say "most" because for me, there were some that had some drawbacks that may or may not be the case for you. For example, I tried Ballistol...wonderful stuff, works perfectly, but stinks to high heaven. I just couldn't go the smell...many can, some cannot. I'm one of the cannot.

I currently use Hoppe's Elite to clean, and Weapon Shield for lube. On a 1911, I also put a bit of grease on the slide rails. I like both of these products because they are non-toxic, have no odor or at least a very pleasant, mild aroma, and work very well.

Everything mentioned is good. I'll only add that if you shoot hard cast lead bullets then I highly recommend a Lewis lead remover run through the barrel after each session. I use H #9 every time through the barrel and any gun oil (major brands) for lubrication.

I'm using Hoppes Elite and rem oil. Hoppes elite because low odor and is doing a fine job cleaning.
