what kind of finish do you have on the grip?

No, its not grip tape, its actually a custom stippling job I had done... It feels great, to be honest, I absolutely HATED the feel of the stock grip, the only bad thing about stippling is that it voids the factory warranty on the frame, but this is not my only gun, as I have many others, I don't really care about the warranty of a $290 gun, even though it is one of my favorites.... I'm glad you like the grip, I'll it'll be done in a couple of weeks with the new guide rod in the mail and the cerakote gonna be baked on next week...

I am getting me one of these, SD40VE this Saturday. I was wanting ANY input from anyone that has any knowledge of this gun. And any recommendations for a laser. Thank you.

It took about 6hrs to complete, its labor intensive, but as you can tell, cool as hell and very practical. I didn't pay, but if I had to guess, the whole job would cost about $100 give or take from a pro..

So, I took my SD40VE to my gun clubs Sunday "Gunday" yesterday, despite being amongst numerous Glocks, M&Ps, 1911s, HKs and XDs, my SD40VE performed flawlessly and everyone that shot it stayed in disbelief of my lil $300 gun.

I Haven'T Run It Yet With It, It Just Came InToday, IDoThinkMY Sd Has Waaaayyyyyy Too Much Muzzle Flip, So Much So That It Actually Knocked The Light Off With ThE Heavy Recoil, I'm Hoping The SS Guide Rod Tames It A Lil bit.

Would adding the sstl rod really drop muzzle flip much if at all? I know a new recoil spring would - but from my reading a 17lbs is the way to go. i dont feel the muzzle flip is horrible but i wouldnt mind reducing it!

Probably Not, But Adding The Light Might Reduce It Some.

Not Hard At All With The Propper Tools, I Used An MGW Sigh Tool.

Put a Wolff spring and steel guide rod on mine and really didn't notice a lot of difference.. I really don't enjoy shooting the gun a lot, bought it for CC but my M&P 40 is much more fun to shoot. mho.

I've got an M&P 40 as well and I also enjoy my M&P more, but my SD40VE is a pretty nice shooter too.... My SD is modded with a galloway precision stainless steel guide rod, an Apex spring kit, lowered my trigger weight down to about 5.5lbs, not too bad and Truglo TFO sights... Its a good gun, certainly NOT my favorite, but for $287 you can't go wrong with a stock one, I just wanted to see what I could do to make it better.... Its a good weapon.

OP: great mods on your pistol! Not sure why stippling would void the warranty, though, but if it makes it more functional for you, then it's worth it.

IMO, the only thing wrong with the SD9VE/SD40VE is that they don't have snob appeal. It's a good, solid pistol that does what it is intended to do, and does it well. A lot of people don't like the trigger, but I really don't mind it...it's not as heavy as some DA revolvers I have owned. Obviously it's not a 1911 trigger, and this gun wasn't intended as a target pistol, but for a SD/HD gun with no thumb safety, I prefer a heavier trigger.

When they first came out, I bought a Bersa BP9CC, which is actually a very nice carry pistol...BUT on the one I had, the trigger had to be less than three pounds! I kid you not...it was so light that I was scared to handle it when loaded, so I traded it back in at the shop where I bought it, and they gave me full credit toward another gun (I hadn't fired it live yet...just dry fire.) Some people, or even many people, may disagree but as I said, I prefer a heavier trigger on a gun with no thumb/grip safety. Just my preference...YMMV.

I too have the same gun in 9mm with Apex springs and for what its designed to do, great value. Like anything, just have to take the time to learn to shoot it well (and that's fun).

looking at the photos of your SD40VE I see another difference between it and my SD40. The end of my barrel does not have the bolster at the end, it is the same diameter from the chamber to the end.

Played around with some grip tape on my slide... I kinda like it

Changed out the sear spring on my SD40VE today..Not too hard for a guy who never worked on guns. There is noticeably less pull on the trigger. Will drop in and let a guy I know put it on a meter and see how many pounds the spring took off. It does shoot better. The steel recoil spring and guide rod was one of the first things I put on it along with night sights..As long as it continues to go bang every time, I'm fine with it for cc. Great fit and size with the caliber I can trust for personal defense.

Had the BP9CC too..what a trigger! As good as any Glock or whatever I've ever shot..

But you covered up part of the "gun capable of firing with magazine removed" thing.

How are you supposed to read it now? LOL!

i put a 22lb in mine and noticed the flip go down alot. i also shoot 180 gr load not 165 gr

I did the same thing and i noticed a big reduction in muzzle flip also....went with the galloway recommendation for the stainless steel guide rod and new recoil spring 22lbs

Well, since the thread has been resurrected, I'll mention that I had a BP9CC too, and the trigger on mine was so light it was scary! I don't have a trigger pull gauge, other than my booger hook, but it was a heck of a lot lighter than any of my 1911s. If it was over 3 pounds, I'd be amazed. That's too darn light on a gun with no safety.

Any one install trijicon or truglo on there sd40? When you ordered the sights did you use the sights for mp shield or mp core?

I have sights from an M&P on my SD... Its my "glove box gun" its pretty awesome, but I don't mind if I lose it or it gets stolen...

I have these Truglo tritium sights on my SD40VE. They are for the M&P.

Nice, and adds to the fun of owning it because your mods reflect what you want.

I added a Galloway guide rod/spring to mine... and the Galloway take down plate (which is slightly wider than the stock S&W plate). This makes it 100% easier to take the slide off the pistol -- it is a fantastic addition for $12.00 -- very easy to install, too. I strongly recommend it to anyone with an SD pistol who has any trouble taking the slide off.

Can you post a pic of the sights please? I'm trying to get night sights and truglo has told me they don't make sights for the SD40VE. Please help I'm dieing to get these sights installed. Will the M&P sights work?

What's the difference between the SD40VE and the SD 40? They look the same. I'm asking because it seems to be a pain in the *** to find night sights for my SD40VE. Any one have some truglo part numbers that will work? Will M&P sights work? Noticed that my SD40VE has dove tails on the rear sights where as the M&P does not. Please Lend some assistance, thanks.

These are M&P Sights. It's a tight fit, but, can be installed on the SD40VE with a little finesse.
