Default SD40VE Parts

I just purchased an SD40VE and have been searching all over trying to find replacement parts like a trigger kit and better sights. Does anyone know of a good site? I checked on midway and didnt even see an option for that gun.

you can find the trigger kit every one refers to from Welcome to Apex Tactical Specialties, Inc.
the sights are interchangeable with the M&P series, just ordered a steel M&P rear sight from Brownells to replace the polymer one on my SDVE 40. if your SD is still pretty new, i would recommend shooting it frequently before installing the trigger kit. i installed the kit after a couple hundred rounds and was getting light primer strikes from the lighter striker spring. i replaced the striker spring with the stock spring and the issues went away. the trigger kit does nothing to the length of the pull.......it will still be a long trigger pull, just a bit lighter. i'm from up in anne arundel county, good to see a fellow marylander on here.

I just replaced the polymer rear sight on my SD9VE with a steel rear sight for a M&P 9. The sight drifts out with a punch, and you can drift the new sight back in. I don't have a sight pusher, so I used a punch and took it slow and easy, until I had it centered. Besides being steel, the sight has a recess and the white dots aren't just painted on, like the stock one that comes on the SD9VE.

I ordered the sight from MidwayUSA, and it doesn't include the set screw. I don't remember if they sell them on MidwayUSA, but when I got the sight, I called S&W to see about buying a set screw, and they sent me a couple for free.

The other accessories I have on my SD9VE, and I would recommend, are the Galloway stainless steel recoil assembly (I got the one in the stock 17 pound weight), the extended take down lever, and a Pachmayr grip sleeve. I also bought an extra SW9VE magazine and put on a SD9VE base plate (which S&W also sent me for free) since I couldn't find SD9VE magazines at the time.

I didn't and won't do anything to the trigger. I knew when I bought it that it was going to be heavier than the M&P series...and since it doesn't have a safety, that is fine with me. If I had wanted a better/lighter trigger, I would have bought a different gun. That's just me...YMMV.

Well, it could just be my imagination, since I know it has the new part and I want there to be a difference, but it does seem to cycle more smoothly. I got it with the OEM recoil spring weight of 17 lbs. Of course, it looks better too...but that really is subjective.

I should take the OEM polymer guide rod to the range with me, and fire some rounds alternating between the two, to do a comparison of how it feels. Even if there is no appreciable difference, I'd still go with the steel guide rod...I've replaced the polymer guide rod on any pistol I've owned that had one, if there was a steel replacement available.

Thanks for the recs. I was considering some of those for my sd9ve, especially the extended take down lever. I am thinking that would be much better for my arthritic hands.

I am still considering whether to lighten my trigger pull. The first time I shot, I was a little discouraged. The second time, after many dry fires, I was much better but still not good. I shot it for the third time on Wed. after more dry fires, and my groupings were in the two inch range at 7 yards, three at 10 yards. For me this is good considering where I started. My problem is that my groupings are all in the nines or better, but some high, some right, some left, some low. If I shoot right on the bullseye, I am always low. I don't want to say this is a sight problem because it is probably my problem since I am low with my wife's sar b6p. But when I shot my son's Ruger SR9 (a very sweet gun btw imo for the price) I was all over the bullseye. He took the back sight and painted the dots orange and this makes the white front dot stand out. I need to find me someone that can watch me shoot and give me pointers, but that would probably be expensive. I have til the end of June to decide if I want to replace the sear spring from the sigmatrigger.com website and reduce the pull down to between 5.5 and 6.

badjuijui sigmatrigger.com is for the older Sigma guns.

The sear spring won't work for the SDVE models.

Up above is the websites for the SDVE model parts.

Actually, he added the new sd9ve and 40ve. He made a 1000 sear springs for 18 bucks each and they sold out in two weeks. He is supposed to have more coming in at the end of June. He used to have a link to a youtube video on the new sd's but took it off after selling out and until the next batch comes in. Here is the link, but there is no way to preorder, only check back periodically.

It does make it much easier to snag. If you are going to replace it yourself, the spring is not retained like it is in a Glock...I found this out as mine sailed across the kitchen. Before you take out the stock lever, pay attention to how the spring is oriented, just in case it gets away from you; I couldn't find any diagrams or illustrations, I don't own a Glock anymore, and I just couldn't see how it went in...so I took it to my gunsmith, and after they had a good laugh they put it back in...took about 2 seconds.

The trigger doesn't seem all that bad to me, after shooting DA/SA revolvers and semi's, plus I don't use mine for a target pistol. In fact, I like that it has a heavy trigger since it doesn't have a thumb or grip safety. Also, I use mine primarily as a truck gun, and back up home defense gun. If I can achieve satisfactory accuracy at defense ranges, then I am satisfied with it, and I don't plan to modify the trigger on it. But, that is just me.

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to accuracy. Does your range have a range officer? If not, then other experienced shooters at the range might be willing to shoot it for you (who wouldn't want to burn up your ammo?) and you can see what results they get. Your sights may be off...it may be your grip...it may be that you are pulling the gun off target due to the heavy trigger...it may be anticipatory flinch. If you shoot better with a different gun, though, it probably isn't your technique in general, as much as it is relative to this specific gun. This just may not be the gun for you...and the SR9/SR9c is a great pistol.

You may have hit the nail on the head. When I played baseball, some bats felt better then others. They were just bats, but I could hit better with a bat that felt better. It may just be that simple. I shot today and by the end of the session I was much better with the SD9VE. I still have one or two that stray out of the groups, but my groupings are still improving. I think I expected too much too soon since I was a good shot growing up with my Marlin .22 repeater and did not need a scope. Shooting has always come natural, but this kind of shooting is more of a challenge than I expected. Practicing by dry firing has really paid off in helping me improve. I forgot who said to do that, but many thanks as it helps me do the same things over and over and it's much cheaper than wasting ammo.
