Default Grease, oil, or...?

I have been watching the Apex video on the spring kit installation, and I noticed that he uses grease on the frame rails and barrel of the SD he is using for the video. I have used grease on my 1911s, but not on my polymer handguns. I've tried a number of products, and while Ballistol worked the best I just couldn't stand the smell. Currently I am using Hoppes Elite to clean and Weapon Shield for lube (yes, I know it's a CLP.)

So, what do you use? Any of you using grease as shown in the Apex video?

Brownells action lube on the frame points and barrel contact points; not too much.

I follow the instructions in the manual and use oil. I like M-PRO 7 gun oil LPX. It leaves a long lasting film that repels dust/dirt and will not evaporate.

There is no right or wrong answer. There are zillions of different lubricants folks use successfully on their guns. I have found Ballistol works best for me. I rather like the smell of it, but I never have thought it had a strong enough scent that it could bother anyone.

Ballistol seems to bother you, or it doesn't. (Profound statement, huh?) It works, no doubt about it...I just didn't like the smell, and I could still smell it for hours after I cleaned my guns.

I had a door knob/lock on an outer door (exposed to the elements) that the internal mechanism was sticking...I had sprayed WD40 in it, and it didn't really help. I was going to go buy a new one, but thought I'd give it a shot of Ballistol first, and it works slick as snot. That's been over a year ago, and it's still working just fine. Man, I wish they'd make a no-odor version for us wimps.

If it slides, grease it, if it rolls, oil it. Some of the greases I use or have used, moly grease, Amsoil synthetic spray grease, (probably great in cold weather), for oil, liquid engine assy lube, (designed to cling), Amsoil 15w-40.

I just use oil - always have. Its what my dad taught me to use, and has never failed me. HOWEVER - when i shoot, im usually not shooting hundreds of rounds at a time, out of any of my weapons, so if you are shooting a LOT, grease may be something to think of.

These days, I don't know how anyone could shoot hundreds of rounds. I don't reload, and my stock of 9mm has gotten low. I can't find much available in local shops. I haven't ordered any from online sources, but I may have to do that...even so, I won't be just burning through the ammo.
