Apex Spring kit
hey guys...was browsing online and I'm thinking about picking up the Apex spring kit, changing my trigger pull from 8 ibs to 5.5. According to the site and reviews it makes for a smooth easy trigger pull all the way through. And obviously it would somewhat help accuracy since you wont be pullin back on the trigger so hard.
Have you guys installed, heard, or used this kit before? Want to get some trusted info before I go and install this in my sd40ve. It's only 20$ so great deal, but its so cheap I want to make sure its not something that will eff up my gun.

I installed the Kit for my SD's but was experiencing Light Strikes when shoot my reloads. So I removed the Striker Pin Spring and put the stock spring back in. I can shoot my reload with no problems now.

so would you say that problem is isolated to only reloaded ammo because the way the bullet is put together instead of manufactured? And so you kept part of the spring kit in, but replaced the striker pin spring...did you see any overall improvement from all stock after doing so?

Had the same problem with light strikes, I contacted Apex and they replaced the striker spring. I suspect that they either packed the wrong spring in my kit, or had a run of bad springs. Bottom line, the replacement spring is good, no more light strikes, and an improved, lighter trigger pull.

have the apex kit in my 40 and have zero problems using factory ammo wwb and hornady cd. my only advise is make sure you watch the apex videos on the install and make sure you have the right tools for the job. I dont mean to scare ya its easy if your mechanically inclined.

The reason the reloads were having an issue is the primers I use are harder than most manufacturs use in there ammo.
Can't say I noticed any difference using the spring kit minus the striker spring.

I used this kit in my SW40F and have had no issues what so ever. And accuracy seems to have gotten better.

My wife's cousin got a SD40VE and was looking to lighten up the pull. Glad to hear some positive results. I have the Apex in my M&P and it made a huge improvement. I was really impressed shooting his SD with how well it handled the .40 recoil compared to my M&P. it was really tame and not at all snappy.

With the replacement striker spring I received from Apex I don't have any problem with CCI, Winchester, Federal or Wolf primers. Sounds like you got one of the weak springs. The New Apex spring is about 0.5 lbs lighter than the S&W factory spring. The original spring I got form Apex was almost 2 lbs lighter.

thanks guys for all your input. After what I heard I am definitely going to go ahead and order the spring kit. Going to do some research on how to install properly now. Looking forward to the improved trigger pull!

After reading this thread I purchased the Apex kit for my Sigma. The kit was in my mailbox within 3 days of the order. I installed it using the Apex installation video and had no problems. Last Monday I took it to the range...what a difference! Put 100 rounds down range and not one problem. The best part...my groups were tighter than before. My accuracy improved by at least 50%...I'm VERY glad I installed this kit. Highly recommend it to other Sigmas owners. Like CGhelofxr said, 'it makes a good pistol a great pistol.'

I'm going to shoot my new SD9VE in it's stock configuration first before adding the Apex kit. That way I can make sure the gun is reliable right out of the box before adding aftermarket stuff to it.

I think you'll find it very reliable...I put over 500 rounds through mine before installing the spring kit. Not one problem...every round went bang. Enjoy your Sigma!

I've got 2 questions about the apex kit. First, does it in any way void the warranty, being as its an aftermarket mod? And second, does the lighter trigger on this particular gun change its safety as a concealed carry weapon or would I still be ok with carrying it safely with the lighter trigger?
Sorry for the noobish questions, but... Well... I am a noob, by its very definition. That's why I'm on here. To expand my knowledge.

If you manage to shoot yourself in the leg with the Apex kit installed, you would still have shot yourself in the leg with the factory springs installed. Finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, be careful to not allow clothing or other foreign objects into the trigger guard, and carry on.
As far as the warranty, yeah it probably voids it. Swap out the Apex parts for the originals before sending it in to S&W.

If u buy a good quality holster it completely shields the trigger almost totally preventing accidental firing. Not to mention if u don't keep one in the chamber then you are 100% safe. No way to properly seat a bullet in the chamber unless u deliberately and forcefully pull back the slide.

For this answer I would only trust straight from the horses mouth. No offense to anyone here, just educated guesses and past experiences aren't a good idea to go by on something like this. Who knows what policies changed yearly and quarterly. I would give SWs warranty department a call and ask that question verbatim. Please post if u do find out because now you have me thinking about the same question cuz I'm bought to install the kit soon

Why don't YOU call S&W. That's the way YOU will get it from the "Horse's Mouth".
If he calls and then posts what S&W said YOU ARE'NT getting it from the "Horse's Mouth". ARE YOU?

I installed one on my SD9 and it was pretty easy. Make sure you watch the video and go slow when doing it. It vastly improved my accuracy so I think it was well worth the $23.95. I just ordered a kit for the sigma I bought yesterday. Can't wait to shoot it.

How can you tell if you already have the APEX spring kit installed? I purchased a use Sigma SW40VE last week and the trigger pull is nice, smooth and easy. I just want to see if the springs were replaced or if someone hacked it.

You could take the striker spring out and off the striker. Then measure it and I can tell you how long the stock spring is. The apex spring is a little longer than factory. You could take the striker block out and see if the spring under it holds on to the block. The apex spring doesn't hold to the block.

What kind of grease did you guys use? I see in the video that the guy used Lubriplate. Do you guys suggest any others?

First, I used a dab of TW25B light grease in the Striker Block to hold the Apex spring in.
On the new Apex trigger return Spring I just use a drop of oil on it after it was installed! Then worked the tigger a little bit. Works great!

What kind of primers do you use? I am considering one of these kits in my sd40ve. All I shoot is reloads with CCI primers. I dont want one of these kits if it prevents me from shooting my reloads

I don't reload, but my SD9VE (with the Apex kit) work fine with Blazer Brass.
