2000 round test
My plan is to shoot the SD40 VE for 2000 rounds with out cleaning, if you are interested I will post pics and report any stoppages and failures each week.
Unfortunately I can not do this all in one range session as time and money simply do not allow. I will shoot at least 100 hopefully 200 rounds a session depending on ammo availability.
I will start the test as soon as I can get things lined up. No more than a week away at most
I will be testing not only the standard SD mags but also the Sigma mags in both 14 and 15 round capacity for function, along with the pistol its self.
Is this something you guys would be interested in reading about? I am doing the test for my own purpose however if you are interested in reading about it I will post my results here as they happen.

I'm all ears. Just make sure you lube it. I let mine get dry during a 1000 round test and it induced malfunctions.

Yes, let the tests begin. I think the SDVE line will do just fine.

Sounds like fun. Were thinking about something like that too when I got my SD9VE. Might do it in the future after I accumulate the ammo. With the limited availability at stores like Academy (3 Boxes per customer/per day - 1 per caliber), one has to start ammo shopping on Monday when he wants to go to the range on Saturday / Sunday. Even if I would do one shopping run on Saturday, all over town, (got 5 Academy stores in a 30 miles radius here) the money factor is another thing.
Checked out a LGS yesterday and got some WWB and Hornady Critical Duty. Even though it was a bit more expensive than the big chain but at least I was only limited by my budget.
Heading to the range this weekend.

i estimate that it will have no failures or very very few....i have around 4k through mine and ive had less than 10 fte ftf stovepipes....those i presume were due to ammo. s&w deffinitly put out a great gun especially for this kind of money

My plan is to run it on the inital lube from clean until it fails to fire or chamber and when/if that happens I will simply lube it without cleaning to see if it will function properly after I will continue until it competly fails even if that goes beyond 2000 rounds.
I expect good things however the proof will be in the pudding.
I will post a new thread when I start the process and update every week.

My SD9 has approx. 3,000 rounds through it (with cleaning and lubrication) with no malfunctions, parts breakages or visible wear. My SD9VE has approx. 1,000 rounds through it (with cleaning and lubrication) with no malfunctions, parts breakages or visible wear. I suspect your 2,000 round test will fly by without a hitch. It almost irritates me when I go to the range and my $300 SD's shoot as accurate and reliable as my $600+ custom M&P's. Note that I did say almost.

I do not anticipate any issues because like you I have a decent round count through my SD40 VE with out any noticeable wear, As it sits now there is at least 1100 rounds through it on the low side and most likely closer to 1500, I wasn't keeping count. However that is with a good cleaning after each range session.
I will be keeping count for this test and I will not clean, lube or even do an external wipe. It will be lubed and clean from the start and will receive another lube only if and when I start to have stoppages.

Awesome idea. I have the SD9 with 1200 rounds and zero issues. The SD9 is impressive. The only question for me is durability. How are they going to hold up at 20000, 30000,... rounds. You keep hearing those round counts for other pistols and so I think it helps because peoples minds are put to ease when they know the gun they carry is capable of those high round counts and so they buy a newer gen given the proven track record. I love the SD9 but for how long will it go and go reliably? I'm with you for the test and if someone is willing to go the long haul I think the better.

Okay got the go ahead to mention this.
The test will be done with the folowing Apex components:
AEK trigger for the SD.
SD Carry/duty spring kit.
SD mag extensions.
This is the reason I cant start this weekend, I have to wait for the items to show up.
This is a test of both the gun and the aftermarket components that are available.
Looking forward to reporting the results for you folks.

Given the tragic events of today it seems this test may take a little longer than usual due to another possible ammo scare. only time will tell.
