IF you decide to do it (I prefer a matte finish) be sure not to round or polish the slide serrations. Nothing worse than not being able to grip the slide.
Other downsides are that it shows fingerprints and will increase glare when shooting on sunny days.

I agree about having a polished slide. I would like to see what it looks like. Also has any one out there ever removed the serrations completely or at least made them lower profiled? If so pictures and how it was done would be nice

I polished the slide on my SW9ve and like it fine. I never did like a matte finish on a gun. I do not carry anything and only shoot at my backyard range. I have just removed the entire matte finish on a new SR1911 ruger. I removed the matte finish on a new 625 before I even shot it. I am unable to take a picture at present but S&W sold some sigmas with the polished slide. Maybe a search will turn up a picture. Different strokes for different folks.

My SW40VE
Here is my SW40VE. Slide, Barrel and Ramp polished. Galloway springs and stainless guide rod. Meprolight night sights. Trigger pull is right about 5.0lb, if my scale is right. Nice and smooth.

Here is picture of a 5906 police trade that had scuffs on it and I polished it with Mother's mag and wheel polish. It was done by hand with an old T shirt and lots of rubbing while watching T V.

Slide flats can be polished to mirror finish by draw filing. If you're not familiar with the technique google it.When done right you can read the fine print in a Philly lawyers contract in the reflection! Nick

I polished the square faces of the barrel when I polished the feed ramp of my SD9VE. Still not sure if I want to polish the whole slide even though I like the pics of the shiny SW40VE. Maybe I just polish the sides and leave the top as is. IF I'm going that route I will post pics of the result here.

I really like that. I may just have to have mine polished.

Truckinjames, how did you do your Polish job? Did you use Mother's Polish like some one else mentioned? Did u do it by hand or with a buffer? Also has any one removed or made the grip serrations less aggressive?

I started with 600 grit metal sand paper and went up. 800, 1000, 2000, and ended with 3000 grit. I used a buffer and a dremel with polishing wheel and jewelers rouge. A very flat, hard surface. A thick glass plate works best for me. And a lot of elbow grease. The last is Mothers polish and a buffer wheel. You can also get a beautiful shine with 5000 grit wet sanding. It just takes time.

Deanodog after shooting that beautifully shiny pistol is it hard to clean? Or is it just like normal?

i think it would be the same if not easier due to the surfaces being smoother, having less pockets for grime to stick to

I like it!!! Did you do any sanding first, or just polish?

I have polished out a couple pistols in years past in front of the TV. I used simichrme polish, and thin flexible leather instead of a rag. Leather holds up better if you are doing it by hand. Thin suede works well

So I polished the barrel on my sd40ve. I'm wanting to add some color in the 40s&w that is engraved on it. So my question is what is the best paint for doing this? Has to be able to stand up to heat And friction.

I have seen guys use nail polish and or ceramic paint. Both have held up well. I haven't done anything like that yet. Post pics when you do.

So the other day i polished the barrel, after some usefull advice from this thread i decided to use a paint pen from my wifes crafting stuff to highlight the 40s&w on top of barrel. it was a blue Pentel "Outline Marker". took it out to the range today and put 100 rounds through it. broke it down cleaned it using plain old remington oil and it held up very well. here are some picks of the coloring on the 40s&w on top of barrel and of a side profile pic of the polished barrel
