Apex AET trigger range report
A present from Apex was waiting for me when I got home today. Did the install, took about 10 minutes or so.
They weren't lying. The pretravel is definitely reduced, but what I noticed right off the bat was the overtravel is essentially eliminated. The trigger pull seems lighter but maybe I'm just overly excited.
My gun already has their spring kit installed. I did a bunch of dry fire before installing the AET to get a feel for the pre and over travel. It really has reduced the over travel to practically nothing.
I will do a range report as soon as I can get out there..
So far, this trigger gets 2 thumbs up from me.
Update 10/13/2013
I finally got to the range Friday evening. I ran several drills and put 350 rounds of Blazer Brass, PMC Bronze and WWB through the gun. No problems whatsoever. The AET is an amazingly simple upgrade that pays huge dividends. I did some straight up accuracy testing and was able to get really tight groups on a 3x5 card, something that was much more difficult with the stock trigger.
The only thing that'll take a little more time to adjust to was that for the past year I had been having to pull the old hinged trigger with the first knuckle joint on my index finger. When going "fast" out of the holster, I'm still burying my index finger up the knuckle instead of pulling with the pad of my finger. More dry fire and trigger time will fix that though.

I really like the way it shoots. As soon as it fires the trigger is as far back as it will go. Virtually no over travel.

Yep, I probably did 150 dry fire reps last night, maybe more I got carried away and lost count, and it there is no movement of the front sight after the trigger breaks. The SD series was a sleeper before, now it could be a real contender in the concealed carry and self defense market if more people take notice of it and the Apex goodies. I can't wait to shoot it.

Another observation of mine is that the AET allows me to use the pad of my index finger to press the trigger straight to the rear. With the old hinged trigger, I had to to the first joint otherwise my index finger would roll down the trigger making for a sloppy trigger press.
In playing with both triggers I've come to the conclusion that the hinged portion of the trigger contributed to the heaviness and was the main culprit in the pretravel.

Installed the trigger last night-took just a few minutes. Agree about the over travel - there ISN'T any! I mean when the trigger breaks there is no more movement of the trigger rearward at all on my pistol. Going to shoot it Friday-can't wait!

You will love it. The round hits exactly where I put the red dot. Nice and clean pull.

Well, I got mine in the mail yesterday (9-28-13) and this is the second one Scot has sent me and after talking to him, we figured there was an issue with over travel on the trigger bar and it was not engaging the striker pin. The odd thing is that when you rack the slide and pull the trigger, nothing. If you keep the trigger pulled and press on the side of the trigger bar, it engages!?! If I remember correctly, Scot stated if the replacement trigger does not work he will have me send it in to him and he will have his gunsmiths do their magic. I hope to get this fixed as I am really digging the trigger even though it is not functioning properly.

Does the installation of the AET do anything in regard to the horrible "reset" of the SD???

I've always shot to trigger recovery, not reset so it doesn't bother me either.

So it IS a "drop in" piece right??? No modification needed? Also, if I already have the Apex spring kit, does it lighten the trigger more? I'm sitting at right around 5.5lbs now...

It is SUPPOSED to be a drop in fit. SOME frames have been found to have some extra material and if yours is one of them then you will have to do as I had to do in order to get it to work. It is not hard at all. A few minutes of your time and you will be more than satisfied!!
I do not mean to thread jack and if you would like I will remove it but HERE is what you would need to do IF your trigger does not work after install!!

Mine went together as if it were hand fitted. As far as the trigger pull, yes it "feels" lighter because you are no longer dealing with the hinged trigger. Is it actually lighter? Maybe, maybe not.

Mine also went right in. I think the trigger feels more solid and just feels better.I also feel that apex trigger much safer in design than the hinged S&W trigger if something should snag the trigger.

The trigger is great. I have it installed along with the apex spring kit in my SD40VE. The trigger drops the weight a little more and the travel is a lot less. I hated the hinged trigger. Accuracy has increased as well. Put 150 rounds and I love they way it's shoots. Going to put the apex trigger on my M&P next.

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a SW9VE and just this last Saturday I took it out to get some trigger time with my new "friend" and I found that my accuracy was severely reduced considering I am no stranger to shooting. Would it be a good idea to replace the stock guide rod with a stainless steel one on top of doing a trigger job/spring replacement? I appreciate any suggestions as this is going to be my edc gun for the time being, until I retire it to home defense.

Replacing the recoil spring assembly won't help in the accuracy department. However, the Apex system has helped a lot of folks, me included.
