i just bought a lightly used 40ve for 240 bucks
i had a few questions i was hoping you guys could help me with.

1. what other mags are compatible(cheaper than sw mags)

2. is there an aftermarket trigger(i know about the spring mods)

3. where can i get some good sights

i have a few others but im to tired right now to remember them so ill ask later

Well, here's the bad news. The Sigma is a fine sturdy gun--I use them for loaners and trainers--but it is not the gun to buy if you love to modify and add on.

1. Buy S&W mags.
2. Not really. You can help a little with springs. You can also quickly turn it into a single shot if you mess up. I keep my Sigmas stock except for polishing. Smooth, not light.
3. Well, that's why they changed the sight cuts on the SD from the Sigma. There are night sights, but other than that the pickings are slim.
And you need a special adapter to put on a light.

My basic advice is to either shoot a Sigma pretty much stock, or sell it and get an SD or M&P. And I have owned them for over 15 years.

well the sigma is my step up gun so to speak. i really just want some night sights. as far as the trigger goes i dont mind the heavy pull. to be honest its light compared to the 17 pound pull on my derringer that i keep in the truck.

You're gonna love this...I have a Sigma 40 VE Allied that has a nice spring kit in it that is sweet. I carry it for a part-time L.E. gig and am putting nights sights on it. When all is done I'll have just around $400 into it. I already owned it and am quite comfortable that I can rely on it enough to carry it on duty. MAYBE someday I'll jump up to an M&P but I don't need to right now.

galloway and apex makes spring kits that work well. i got the galloway kit and it works well. as for mags, use factory mags. at this time midway usa has them one sale. for sights i don't know, i use the factory sights and they work well. no reason to change them.

well id like an adjustable rear sight. i basically need to ba able to rely on this gun if i need it. i help out a non profit thats not on the best side of town and ive had a few people try to walk off with donations. if these guys are bold enough to come around un armed id hate to see some one desperate enough to come armed.

I don't understand why night sights or adjustable rear sight is determining you being able to "rely" on that weapon.

You will not use it in a defensive situation exceeding 10 yards. The Sigma platform is stone cold reliable and more than accurate for self defense range and further if you do your part.

Fixed sight handguns usually are point of aim at 25 yards. If you can keep every round in a 7 inch paper plate at 10 yards it's combat accuracy is more than acceptable.

Adjustable sights do not correct bad shooting habits. I have over 4000 rounds through a SW9VE in the last two years. The original purchaser couldn't hit a barn if he was standing inside it.

He didn't even try more than 2 full mags through it when he deemed it a piece of junk...bad sights,bad trigger..yada yada yada.

I will tell you that ammo does make the difference. Depending on the grain, yours may shoot higher or lower at specific distance. My 9 is most accurate with 115gr fmj or hollow points and is superbly accurate with 115 +P HP's.

Learn your gun stock out of the box...you may find that you shoot it better than you think. It's combat accuracy is well within acceptable limits.

sights are not used in a gun fight. they are used on tv/movies and when you are at the range. paper targets do not shoot back, run at you, fight with you. most problems happen within 0 to 10 feet. at this distance you will "point shoot". you will not have the time to get a good sight picture and do slow fire like when you are on the range. in the real world you will pull your gun, address the problem (point the gun), and shoot more than one shot. the sights on the sigma are good and will do what you need them to do. the sights do not change the how well the gun will shoot. the sigma has a heavy trigger pull and i do like the trigger spring kit (s) that can bring the trigger down to a better pull weight. but the sigma right out of the box, without any work is a gun that will work and do what you want it to do. use the money for sights and spring kits on ammo and a good name brand holster. they will serve you better in the long run. but i would have four mags total for the gun.

I have a SW9f, I put a glock fiber optic front site on it. It requires only a little fitting to fit in the sight slot. a small fine file, stroke 2-3 times on each side and try it in the slot, repeat until it fits. Mine is a Hi-Viz I bought on Amazon although any others will fit. It was approx. $25 sight picture for my eyes (old) is much improved. I have an apex plastic trigger and spring kit in it. It is now smooth with a 6.2# break and no over travel. Use to be "gritty" and pulled at 12#.
