Default Problem inserting mag into sd40ve

Hey everyone I just purchased an sd40ve a few weeks ago as my first gun. I am curious as to if anyone else has had trouble loading a magazine when it is fully loaded. It only happens when it has rounds in it, when it is empty it inserts fine. When trying to load the mag in, it does not click in easily at all. I needs to be hit with a good amount of force and sometimes even then it doesn't stay in. Is this because the spring in the mag is still pretty stiff?

One other thing as that when pulling the slide back to put one in the chamber, it will sometimes get caught on the round that is loading in. It doesn't get completely stuck open, but will get caught up then fully reset.

Suggestions?

Either load one less round in the mag or lock the slide back before inserting the mag until the spring gets broken in.

Thanks for the response. I've tried both. Loading one less round doesn't help. It only becomes better when there at like 2-3 rounds in there. Loading with the slide back does help. So it is the spring that is causing the issue and will start to get better as the spring settles?

When you load with the slide closed, you have to compress the magazine spring another 1/2 cartridge diameter to lock the magazine in. If you don't get the magazine completely locked in, it falls out on the first shot, which is hilarious at the range to everyone except the person holding the gun...

Haha yea I can imagine that being pretty humorous. Thankfully I always make sure the magazine if locked in before shooting so this hasn't happened.....yet haha.

One thing I always do with any new gun (well, not revolvers) is to load the magazines to capacity (much easier with an UpLula) and let them sit for a week or so. During this same time, I leave the slide locked open as well. Then I clean them all thoroughly. Seems to help.

I also only load my SD9VE mags with 15 rounds, even though they hold 16. Makes insertion with the slide closed much easier, even after broken in. I don't sweat not having the extra round...if I can't get it done with 15 rounds, then I'm in more trouble than I can handle anyway.

Plus, and this is my OCD kicking in, the ammo I buy comes in rows of 5 rounds in the box. If I load 15 rounds, I use three rows. If I load 16, there is a partial row left in the box. (Yes, I know... )
