My love for these guns started a few years ago when I bought the SW9VE. Had to sell it, but miss it, it was my daughters favorite, never a hiccup in any way and no problem with the trigger pull. Two members of this forum gave me the encouragement to buy. It was the best $300 I ever spent.
I currently own a new SD9VE.

I have one Sigma and two SD's, IMHO the SD is better gun than the Glock. Better ergonomics and as reliable as a Glock what is there not to like.

i traded my personal glock 23, it was customized heavily (not my duty G23) for a SD40VE and a .22 LR rifle with 200 rounds of .40 range and 50 crit duty rounds in .40 as well as a brick of .22lr ammo from federal
best trade in a while, the SD gives you a reliable gun thats easy to shoot/clean/maintain worth just as much in my eyes as a glock. well maybe not since i got a ton of extras with mine for my glock

agreed, with the SD they did a fantastic job with ergos. before when i was searching for a nice glock alternative i looked at kahr, kel tec, walther, ruger, and other smiths. i fondled many, from the moment i picked that SD up it felt right. it felt like this firearm was made for my hand. it was comfy, well balanced, and was a blast to shoot. thats when i posted my glock for trade for a SD and got the deal i did

My daughter tried out a bunch of 9mm's and swears that the sigma beats them all in the hand. Same thing with the SD for me. I'm practicing as we speak.

i pickup a used sigma 40 several years ago because it was cheap. it is one of the best guns that i got around the house. fits my hand better than my duty glock. dropped in a galloway trigger spring kit and it shoot just as good or better than my glocks. i even carry it off duty sometimes because it works. never given me any problems not matter what ammo i feed it. even shoots my reloads great too. i keep an eye open for another one. i like when people talk bad about the sigma and want to sell them cheap.

-I love my SD40 VE! It doesn't kick any harder than my Wife's Taurus 85S .38 Special. I found that a bit odd, but I'll take it...

I recently purchased an SD9VE for a couple reasons. First, it was hard to resist the $269 price for a brand new striker fired polymer frame 9 mm with a lifetime warranty. Second, I have become reasonably accurate with larger metal framed hammer fired 9 mm's and 1911 .45 semi-autos, so looking for a new challenge. The SD has provided said challenge by making me pay more attention to fundamentals such as grip and trigger control. I don't know if the SD will ever be as accurate (for me)as the larger metal frame handguns, but it's all about the quest!

I know from my experience a few years ago in this forum that we have a ton of sigma owners out there, and we had lots of participation. I'm hoping they'll come back and post here again.

Bought my SW40F in 1994 before the ban. It served nearly 20 years as my night stand gun. A M&P40 has taken its place, and the Sigma is now sitting nice and cozy in its original box. It's 11lb trigger has made me a better shooter, and the grip is still the best ever made IMO.

Just added an SD9VE. Didn't need another 9mm, but fell in love with the price ($313.00 from Bud's) and have fallen in love with the gun itself since.

I agree.
The SDVE's fit me many, many times better than a Glock. Don't get me wrong, I love Glocks. I just haven't come across many that even come close to being comfortable in my hand. The SD's fit like a glove.

I'm glad I kept my Sigma 9mm and I had to be crazy to think I don't want it anymore just because I bought a Sig P250c 40sw. Come to think of it, I was trying to get a mate for the Sigma in 40sw but my range's suppliers didn't have any in stock and backordered already. That's when I decided on the Sig.

I have the all black non-ve SD9. Much better ergo's than Glock. Quality is the same, plus metal sights and front night sight. Trigger leaves a lot to be desired. Also, my SD9 is not as reliable as Glock. Still, for $399, a good deal.

Bought my SD40VE earlier in January.
Bought my girl the SD9VE yesterday...so we have his and hers...
Pardon the pun, but these pistols are absolutely the best bang for the buck.

I had a Sigma 40VE & loved it. I carried & shot it for over a year. I gave it to my buddy on a swap for a FS M&P40. He fell in love with the Sigma. The trigger didn't bother him nor did it bother me too much so we left it stock. I miss the gun but now also have a brand new M&P40C & I'm very satisfied with it. I've thought it over & am still undecided if I'd buy a another Sigma or one of the newer versions like the SW or SD. I'm pretty much set on getting an M&P45C as my next handgun, though.

why do you say not as reliable as a glock? mines had 4000-5000 rounds through it and i havent had any issues past the initial 200-300 break in period. i carry mine daily and trust it as much as i would my glock 23.

So far everyone seems to agree (as do I) that the SD9VE (and it's siblings) have better ergomics than the GLOCK line.
Both of my SD9VE's remain 100% reliable with anything you can stuff in their magazines.
Reliability, ergonomics, accurate, good looks, and a price point that won't break mama's cookie jar.

Had a Sigma .40. Ergonomics totally kick the Glock, but I didn't care about the .40 and didn't want to get set up to load for it (since I already have a CZ75 9mm that I load for), so I sold it. If it had been a 9mm, it would still be here. Been thinking about maybe getting an SD9VE, since I really did like that .40 other than the caliber.
Of course, lately, it's been easier to find .40 ammo than 9mm, so who was smart there?

-That's basically the whole reason I went with the .40S&W. Everywhere I looked, I could find ammo for it. But the 9mm was always empty on the shelves. Honestly you can't go wrong with either caliber...

Well I have decided to buy the SD40VE and I am going to have some IWB and OWB holsters made by On Your 6 Design and both pistols will fit. Plus I really like how my 9 shoots and feels so I will stick with what I know works.

I have the sd40ve, my first semi-auto, and love it. Got it a little over a year ago and have over 1000 rounds thru it. Except for a couple minor glitches, learning the gun, I have no problems.

Just shot my newly acquired SD9VE for the first time this afternoon. Fits my hand like a glove and functioned perfectly. This is my first Smith polymer framed pistol and I am very impressed. I was especially pleased it shot my cast bullet loads with excellent accuracy at 50 feet. I cannot imagine a better pistol without spending a lot more dineros.

I'm sure hoping we can get the "old sigma club" back to this forum. I know there are a bazillion owners out there.

Sigma 9mm was my first gun purchase & my introduction into shooting. With the heavier trigger pull it has made me a better shooter because I have to really pay attention to proper mechanics which makes me focus more. By no means am I a marksman, but I can hold my own at the range with it.
I have an SW99OL compact that I use as my CC, but shoot the Sigma better.

I had the last generation of the Sigma in .40SW and the only reason I sold it was someone offered me more cash than I paid for it. I still plan on buying a new SD in .40SW to replace it though.

-If you get one, you'll love it! And if you keep your eyes open, you can find one heck of a deal. Mine was $351.44 including tax, but some shops run them for $299.99+tax. Either way they are great deals fro a great pistol...

When Academy Sports had them on sale once before for $289, I bought a SD9VE. When they had them on sale again recently for $289, I wanted to get a SD40VE, but no stores in the Dallas area had them, and they won't give rain checks.
Now they are back at regular price ($319, which is still a good price for this gun) and they are still hard to find. I checked this morning, and the only Academy Sports in the DFW area that had one was in Flower Mound (which is 70 miles one way from me) but it was on hold, pending getting a background check cleared...so, it wasn't for sale. I went into a local gun shop and they had one for $339, which is $20 more, but I'd have spent that much in gas to go get the one in Flower Mound, plus this one was for sale today...so, I bought it.

GKC,
I bought my 40 at a LGS for 359 plus tax. They are across the street from my house.
I probably wasted enough gas and time to make up any difference for a lesser price.
Now, I went to a gun show 10 minutes away, they had the 9mm for 329. You simply won't get one in MI cheaper unless you have a friend that is an FFL and is willing to waive sales tax and the FFL fee.
So I thought about it (after spending $3 on parking and $5 to get into the show).
So this past Sunday I went to a gun show 35 minutes away. $5 for me and my girl to get in, 5 to park. There's 70 miles worth of gas and 15 between parking and entry.
I found the same dealer, they were out. I found a dealer near the door for 339, I asked them to match so and so's price at 329 and it's sold.
They gladly obliged.
What did I really spend on the gun after time, gas, show entrance and parking...as much as I would've as if I would've gone across the street and spent $359 for a 9mm. However... They were sold out. LOL.
Moral of the story, when you spend that much time driving around, looking...and waiting, you've lost any savings you could've had. I'm older, but not too much wiser...LOL.

Man, that's so true. I called instead of driving, although when I'd have to take my wife to one of her doctors or physical therapy, I'd stop at any Academy Sports along the way...but I was going that way anyway. This particular gun shop has an online store, and they had a SD40VE for $322 on it, but it came with 10 round magazines. I finally said what the heck, and went in this morning to order it, and lo and behold they had one in the case for $339, that came with 14 round magazines, so I bought it! Yeah, it was $17 more, but I'd have spent $80 or so to get two 14 round magazines, and keep the 10 rounders for backup...so, I still think I came out ahead.
Plus, when I want something, I want it NOW.

We are all spoiled with the age of the Internet and fast shipping. Want it now... I'm the same way.
My G/F's been saying no...and then she just realized, I had it in my mind we were going to buy her this gun. Period.
And she was ALL smiles at the range after putting about 100 down.
It is "her" gun. Not some rental, not my 40 which has a little too much pop for her. HER gun.
You could've always sold those 10 rounders to me....lol.
I figure I spent an extra $100 or so on gun shows, parking and driving around...but hey, how can you argue going to a gun show with your kid and better half? (That's how I justify it anyways...)

New to the S&W Forum. I bought my first SW40VE at a gun show in February of 2011 for $289 after doing much online research. I really liked this pistol so later I purchased a SD9VE for $300 and then a SD40VE for $320. I really enjoy all of these S&W pistols. I am a reserve deputy and would carry one of these pistols for duty except they wanted every deputy to carry a .45, so I purchased a S&W M&P 45 and I like it as well. I also have a S&W M&P 15 Sport which is a good AR rifle. Many people look down on my Sigma pistols until we go to the range and I can out shoot all the Glock owners. They don't know what to say and that puts a big smile on my face.

SW9VE on it's way to me at the end of the month. It's coming with three 16-round mags and one decreased capacity for travel to states that don't trust me with more than 10 rounds.
