Default SD9VE Need help!

I am fairly new at dealing with semi auto handguns. My experience is limited to bolt action rifles, however, my best friend purchased a sd9ve and was attempting to install a trigger kit. I showed up to help out, a minute too late. He had it apart and didn't take pictures as he went. So we are left with this question...WHERE do these parts go? If anyone has pictures or a link to some of where these parts go, please help us! Thank You.

Thanks, we did and still couldn't notice where they go. Any links to diagrams or schematics?

No offense but are you sure that it's a SD9VE? When I put the Apex spring kit and trigger in I didn't came across those parts. However you can find schematics for the S&W SW9/SW40 series at Brownells. The SW9VE is a bit different than the SD but pretty close. AFAIK there are no schematics for the SD Series available from S&W.

After putting an Apex trigger and spring kit in my SD40VE and the spring kit in my girl's SD9VE, that is not an SDXVE part.

SW or non VE SW maybe?

GusGus; Those are not SD VE parts. Not sure what you have, but they do not fit in a S&W SD or SW series pistols, that I know. Steelhat is right, Brownell's for a schematic to verify.
A side note to your Buddy: small plastic bags and a sharpie pen. Label and bag small extra parts to avoid confusion, it will save time and confusion in the future. Just a suggestion.

I think I might have solved your friend's mystery. It seems that some SD9VE pistols have a magazine disconnect safety. Have him look at the photos on page 33 of the owners manual (here's a link if you need it: SD9VE Manual) and see if those parts look familiar.

Ok so that's why I don't have those parts in my SD. I have just the super simple version without those fancy add-ons.

With these new point of view I would say that the trigger pin goes through the hole in the "metalblock" of the mag disconnect and the spring. I would place the "block" in between the two spring holes with the little extension facing down, catching the U-shaped part of the spring. I'm trying to visualize it with my graphics program and post that pic later.

Ok hope the picture clarifies what I said. How that goes together with the trigger, locking block and slide release...???
I would go with try and error till it's back to save working condition.

All the above is just what I guess by the given information. It might help or not. If you can't get it back together by no means you should see a qualified gunsmith and let him fix it.

I Googled it for awhile but came up empty, I even searched the Brownells and Numrich websites. Why not call the company that sold the spring kit (Apex or Galloway) and ask for help? I'll bet they've dealt with more magazine disconnect safeties than we have.

I got a CA model and that is the mag disconnect. If you want to you can leave out the 4 parts. The part that engages the part you have a pic of and the pin that holds it in and the 2 parts shown. The part that actually touches the mag can be taken out and it will allow the mags to drop free too. I think my trigger is a tad lighter without these things but I didn't measure it.

Opps! I stand corrected. I have not seen that on an SD. I live in Texas and that device in a pistol is not required out here.
Thanx, Starfire, nice catch.

Question SD9VE CA

Just bought one even though I don't live in CA. It will live mostly in a bedside drawer and the tactile loaded chamber indicator will tell me how I left the gun 6 months ago. Also, by leaving the magazine partially out, I will have a secondary safety in the dark. I have a laser pointer but may replace it with an LED illuminator.

Regarding the Apex parts, I have been exchanging emails with them trying to get them to understand that their video on installation problems does not apply to the CA version.

In any case, I don't lean towards changing any springs in their primary kit but may consider their trigger which appears to be a little safer than the SD trigger. Opinions solicited.

I have both, the spring kit and the trigger in my SD9VE. The spring kit reduced the trigger-pull weight down to around 6lbs. The trigger reduced the pre- and eliminated the over-travel totaly. No more trigger travel when the gun goes bang. That's why I would highly recommend the AET trigger by Apex. Being that you live in OK you might want to consider the +3 mag extension, also made by Apex. You have to give them a call to order it. I'm not sure if they have them only for the SD9VE or if they also carry one for the SD40VE. During the beta test they sent out samples to testers for both models, but now they only list the ones for the SD9VE.

Well, Steelhat- the CA version has a 10 round magazine which has a crimp about half way down and the bottom section of the spring is wound with no gap between the windings - in fact that lower section is painted white and seems to be glued into a solid section by the paint (or glue, whatever it is). Thus, the bottom section of the magazine can be considered non-functional, just a spacer.
