Default (Poll)Apex Spring kit or Trigger kit?

If you could only purchase one for the time being which one would you choose? Does the trigger kit make the break feel a lot cleaner?

on a side note, I will be using this weapon for self defense. I know a few people have had issues with the Apex striker spring being too weak, causing failure to fire/light primer strikes. Besides running ammo through the weapon, what is the best way to check the new springs reliability? By hooking a trigger pull gauge to it and compressing it? I read another thread and someone measured it this way. the original spring he received from Apex had a much lower lb rating than the second one apex sent him

Quote:
Update: Apex contacted me, and after discussing the situation with Scott, he sent me a replacement striker spring. The new spring, according to my measurements, was slightly over 5.25 lbs, compared to the factory spring of 5.75 lbs and the original Apex Spring at 3.75 lbs. With the new Apex spring the trigger pull measured 5.5 lbs.

Put 150 rounds thru the SD with CCI & Wolf primers. Deep dimples in the primers, and 100% reliability.

I would say it's good to go for carry, but if your primers show shallow dimples or failures to fire, then use the factory striker spring.

or would you guys advise just leaving the striker spring stock and use the rest the spring kit? thanks

Opinion/Rectum analogy time - as in "Everybody's got one here's mine"

Since I view my SD9VE's as purely self defense guns, and not plinkers, I like their triggers just as they came from the factory.

With all the adrenalin pumping during SHTF scenarios one really doesn't want too light a trigger.

That's how unintentional discharges occur, resulting in criminal and or civil court appearances.

the kits only lower the gun's trigger pull pressure to 5.5-6ish lbs, a conservative trigger pull number. if anything id be more concerned with having a heavy trigger pull+adrenaline, resulting in an inaccurate shot from jerking the trigger

I tried the kit and trigger in my SD9VE and it was a noticeably lighter pull. I ended up changing it back to factory parts for my own reasons and it works just fine for me. I recently bought the SD40VE and I plan on leaving it stock also.

I went with the kit. Trigger is lighter but not too light.

I have the spring kit and the AET in my SD9VE. I like the lighter trigger pull from the spring kit and had no issues with light strikes yet. But what I like more is the reduced pre- and eliminated over-travel of the trigger by installing the AET. If I can only choose one I would go with the AET and would leave the springs stock.

The only thing I've done to mine is drop in the AET trigger itself, no spring kit. I absolutely love it, I'm glad there was an option to do this w/o modifying anything else. I liked all the assembly just like it was but the physical booger-hook and it feels a lot better to me while "rolling" the trigger as I pull, and the pull strength is the same...just feels better. Thats my 2 coins.

havent had that issue with mine at all. no light primer strikes. i did have one that didnt fire that the primer was hit just fine. looks like it was a bad primer or something. range officer was tripping though lol. he thought the bullet might fire itself. he was also about 23 years old so i was laughing hardcore

Default Light primer strike Sd9ve

After installing Apex kit I'm getting 2-3 light strikes on 50 rounds.
Using Winchester white box from Walmart and Remington green box.
Is problem ammo or striker spring?

About 700 total rounds through gun.

Ive got 3 sd9ve's all stock and i really just dont understand all the talk about the trigger. I suppose it can always be lighter, smoother etc but after a combined 2500 rounds thru all 3 I like the trigger and it doesnt seem to affect my accuracy. I came from a wheel gun so maybe thats why im more use to a heavier pull? Either way I like the guns and would buy them again.

Since I have around 1500 rounds of Wal-Mart Winchester White Box alone with zero failures of any kind, I'm going with spring as the problem.

I think the greater peril is a trigger pull that is TOO LIGHT, possibly causing an accidental discharge under under stress before you have actually made the decision to shoot.

Personally, if I do ANYTHING to the fire-control group, it will be a stand-alone APEX AET trigger, with S&W FACTORY springs. My calculations tells me this will lighten my 8# factory trigger pull to slightly over 7# !! I can live with this. S&W states that, (for Self Defense) the trigger should not go below 7 # !! I'm OK with this. The better part of the deal is the better MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE from the APEX unit. I don't believe a 7# pull would be considered a "hair trigger" in a court proceeding OR by a police crime lab !! It probably would make the gun a bit more shootable without getting into LIABILITY issues, on the off chance I'd actually have to use the gun for it's intended purpose. I could ALSO live w/ the trigger as it is currently. It's smoothing up a bit and some minimal TRAINING on trigger manipulation has already gotten good results. Frankly, after putting almost 6K rounds through the gun, I feel I need better SIGHTS more than a better trigger. YMMV !!!

I have the spring kit only, and I love it. The factory trigger pull is still very long, and even at 5.5 or 6 lbs breaking, you still have to pull that sucker a long way. I have had no light strikes since I changed the springs, and I have put a few hundred rounds through it since. Point of impact is where I point it now, rather than pulling every shot.

If you can kit your target with the factory springs and trigger, I say leave it. Mine was a Massachusetts compliant 10.5lb trigger pull, and I couldnt hit anything with it.

The magic of the SD9/40VE is the value for the cost. Adding stuff just drives up the cost and takes away some of the magic.

Glcoks, M&Ps, etc. are more suitable platforms for mods that increase efficiency, effectiveness, etc., in an open-ended way -- you pay for each bit of change, and sometimes it is worth it and sometimes it may not be, but its what you do.

That's MY view. The beauty of this hobby is that the gun is yours, and you can do whatever you want to do! And its not really wrong, as long as you are safe!

The reason I took the spring kit back out is because I too was having a lot of light strikes. Not good.

Personal experience: I bought and installed two Apex spring kits, shot them, went home and took them out. I prefer the stock trigger.
