Single load
Is it bad for my sd40ve to load a single rd in the chamber. I know some will say that its bad for the ejector. I can't find any info on this tho. Most likely because I don't know how to explain it property. Thoughts?

It is better to feed from the magazine, however, in an emergency I'd load it any way I could.
I carry a spare full mag, not spare loose rounds for a semi-auto.

I'd say if you're gonna load a single round, just put one in the mag. The extractor is made for the rim to slide under it, not to snap over the edge. Sure you can drop one in the chamber and release the slide. And it may not cause any issues. But why chance it?

I take my gun to work. I don't have a cpl yet. So when I get to work I load it up. When I go home I pack everything up and reload once I get home. I've been noticing that the bullet keeps sinking farther into the brass. So I thought maybe this was a cure

sounds like you are in michigan! i used to be the same way. unload. pack up in case. drive to where im going, pull case out of trunk, load gun, holster. go about my day. much easier with cpl. i havent unloaded my guns in a long time while transporting.
what kind of ammo to you use? i noticed with the hornnaday rounds that happened alot. i used crit def and crit duty. ive since switech to another LE brand of ammo and have not had the issue. ofc i dont unload my pistols often

I would not fire that round if the bullet is sinking back into the brass. This is called bullet setback. It can increase pressures to a dangerous level and cause damage to your firearm or yourself.
One great big festering neon distraction

Repeatedly cycling a round into the chamber and ejecting that same round will definitely cause bullet set-back in VERY short order. That, of course, creates an EXCEEDINGLY dangerous OVER-PRESSURE condition.
Unless you are interested in having a really exciting time the next time you fire that pistol, please discard any round that has had ANY amount of bullet set-back. The best procedure for folks carrying for defense, whether LE or not, is to NOT load and unload except after a range session, and then rotate which round is the top round, and INSPECT all rounds by standing them up and using a straight edge on top to see if any bullet set-back has occurred. Discard any rounds that do not pass this test.
Chambering a round without feeding through the magazine is also to be avoided. No one really ever did this until the Mel Gibson movie, and Beretta thereafter claimed you can do it with the M9 (the pistol used in the "suicide" scene in Lethal Weapon. Perhaps you can with a Beretta, but I would not wish to test it on a day-in, day-out basis.
Generally, pistol extractors are designed to work like the Mauser 98 rifle. Thus, they are designed to let the cartridge slide up behind the extractor as the pick-up rail strips the top round from the magazine.
Dropping a round into the chamber and then letting the slide drop slowly often will not allow the slide to fully close, and letting the slide slam forward has been known to snap off the extractor hook. Neither result is preferred. I recommend you always chamber a round by running it through the magazine, even if it is a single round.

Anyone notice in LW how Riggs says he has that one hollow point just in case he decides to off himself...then it macro-cuts to him holding the round in his hands...and its a FMJ, lol.
