Recoil and Tactical light question
Reading other threads about the Galloway guide rod.
Has anybody installed it on a SD9VE?
The factory guide rod is 17lbs they recommend the 20lb.
Have you had any issues with the 20lb with FTF, FTE. or the
slide not locking open after the last round?
Does it really reduce recoil?
All the Tactical lights I've looked at stick out past the end of the
barrel and it looks like they would be covered in gun powder
after an extended shooting session.
Anybody have any ideas?

Just installed the 22lb on the SD40 VE, will report as soon as I try it out. I have read good reviews about it so I decided to order or. Also the stock rod on the 9VE is 15lbs not 17. They do recommend 5lbs higher so 20lbs is the right number for the 9VE. The 40VE is 17 stock so I went with the 22lbs.
I already like that the rod is metal vs plastic like the original rod. I posted a picture of what mine looks like in this forum, go check it out!

Plenty of reports of guns with 40 to 50K rounds through them using the stock plastic guide rod.
That being said...I'm with you. My MP has a metal rod. I like the idea...even if it is just for the placebo effect...LOL.

It's true, S&W wouldn't put a plastic rod in their gun if it wasn't going to last but like you said, it's that effect lol

I keep a Crimson Trace CMR-202 on my SD nightstand pistol.
When it goes to the range, the light comes off.

I have an M3 Insight on my SD9VE. I intentionally left it on this weekend and ran 700 rounds through it. Gun and light ran perfectly. No issues with residue or recoil.

My factory rod started to get a small curve to it and I could only get it to stay in if I put it in a specific position. I upgraded to the 22 lb and havnt had any probs with it. Put aprox 500 180gr reman rds through it without any failures!

Ya my plastic rod did have some stress on it so that's another reason I swapped it.

The SD9VE is my wife's and I was hoping the 20lb guide rod would reduce recoil some as the pistol does have a kick to it.
Let me know if the 22lber helps on the SD40VE.
I'd like to get the trigger kit, but with the trigger being the safety I'm just going to leave it for now.

I like to get the C/T light just to expensive.
One day down the road I am going to pick up this
Rail Master Pro Laser Sight and Light | Official Crimson Trace
Going to get the Green laser though so it works during the
daylight.

The M3 insight is another great light just a little out of my price range. Trying to find a cheapo light that doesn't stick to far out from the barrel.

With stock or apex trigger, the trigger is the safety. Am I misunderstanding what you're meaning by that?

With the apex or calloway trigger kit, only the spring setup is changed/swapped, you leave the actual trigger on the gun. Looks wise it will look stock, the only thing that changes is how many pounds the trigger needs to be pulled. Like I said mine was originally 12lbs and its down to 5lbs.

The Apex replacement trigger does the exact same thing the factory trigger does, just in a different way.
It has that "Glock type" blade. without depressing the blade, the trigger can not fire the gun.
On the factory S&W trigger, the bottom half of the hinged trigger does the same thing as that blade on the APEX trigger.
It is 100% as safe as it was before.

Are you selling the actual blade trigger? Or just the spring?

It's my wife's 1st pistol and I want to keep the trigger pull in the 10-12lb range so when she fires it it's a round that's meant to go down range. It's also are Home/Defense weapon and if she ever has to grab it out of the nightstand I don't want a accidental discharge with the trigger kits lighter trigger pull.
Maybe after this summer and are vacations when she has
1000rds + through it I might get the trigger kit.
I have noticed that The SD9VE jumps on her quite a bit that's why I was trying to get some feedback on the 20lb Galloway guide rod just trying to reduce the recoil.
I've also purchased a couple of boxes each of defensive rds
in 96g, 115g, 124g, and 147g so we should have it figured out
by the end of summer.

I went with the 20# rod in my SD40VE and noticed reduced recoil with 165 gr ammo. So far there has not been a single issue with operation and rapid follow-up shot accuracy has improved as well. I am switching to 180 gr ammo and will be installing the 22# rod for it. I am also installing the Apex spring kit and polymer trigger. I like the blade safety on the polymer trigger better than the stock trigger.
